Whitebark pine and aspen ecology hike

Join the Wood River Chapter of the Idaho Native Plant Society for a free fall walk on Galena Summit, Saturday October 21. We’re going to hike up a short but steep hill to look at Whitebark pines and then down below the highway to look at aspens. With luck, there will be beautiful views and fall color. This hike will focus mostly on ecology of these two tree species but also on the importance of Whitebark pine as a keystone species and on why aspen is so successful at colonizing your whole front yard. You could meet us at the Hailey Park and Ride Lot (Bullion X River Sts) in time to leave at 9:15am or choose to meet at the Lake Creek parking area at 9:45am. This hike is rated Medium difficulty for altitude, steep hills and uneven ground. If you use poles, they’d be handy. After the hike, please join us at Sawtooth Brewery to have a beverage together. No dogs please. For more information please call 559.696.9953.
