The Persistent Guest @ THE SPOT

The Spot

Join us next weekend @ The Spot for the unplugged version of the acclaimed one woman show, THE PERSISTENT GUEST, written and performed by Boise local, Jodeen Revere. The limited engagement is the play's final run before its New York Premiere this fall! The world premiere took place at @ Boise Contemporary Theater directed by Benjamin Burdick in October 2022. “…a ferocious and courageous confrontation, a battle for life; spirit challenged but unbowed - again and again and again. Jodeen Revere takes command of the stage as if she owned the place…” “…she faces it all unflinchingly and with wit, delivering nearly equal parts humor and pathos throughout all 80 minutes (no intermission) of the play." -Jeanne Huff, Boise Weekly SHOW DESCRIPTION: It was a reading at Boise's Ming Studio in November 2019, that would become the springboard for Jodeen's one woman show The Persistent Guest. Originally intended to be part of a book, Jodeen’s sixty minute segment was funny, touching, insightful, enlightening and full of unexpected observations about her three separate rounds of treatment for breast cancer. The crowd was enthralled and enthusiastic. It became clear the piece was in fact a one-woman show. The two years following the ...

“My Pioneer Cabin Story” with Todd Schwarz

The Community Library

In the late 1970s, Todd Schwarz made his first excursions into the Pioneer Range just east of Sun Valley. He climbed a number of peaks including Hyndman, Cobb, and Old Hyndman in short order, then noticed a notation on the USGS topo map he'd been studying: Pioneer Cabin. Knowing nothing about it and expecting a collapsed, hardscrabble structure, he made his first trek up the Corral Creek Trail to the cabin and fell hard for the view as well as Pioneer Cabin's character. Over the next nearly 50 years, he's returned again and again and learned more about the origins and history of the place. In the course of his exploration, he's created a photographic record including early photos from the very first guided trip to the cabin in the winter of 1938 (courtesy of The Community Library). Todd will share his own experiences while including a geographic overview of the cabin's namesake Pioneer Range, a bit of Sun Valley history around the Alpine Touring operation, seasonal route information, and attempt to explain the allure of a place that has compelled him to return dozens of times over several decades. Todd Schwarz splits time between Hailey and Twin Falls and ...

Open Book: A Pocketful of Pixie Dust

The Community Library

Open Book is a story sharing experience where trained "Books" share their stories in small groups. The Open Book storytellers come from a variety of countries, cultures, religious affiliations, sexual orientations, and ability statuses. Open Book can be used to honor differences, see similarities and enhance empathy as Books share stories from their messy and beautiful lives. After the story sharing, the Books facilitate a discussion around common themes and ideas that arise from their stories. In this way, participants get to actually have a conversation with the Books as if they were talking to an author of a story. Join The Community Library as we hear from JJ Singh Kapur, who will share this project and his own story with us. The Bollywood movies JJ Kapur watched as a child were all about heroes and villains. The off-screen superhero in JJ's life was his father, who carried with him a pocketful of pixie dust wherever he went. But when JJ returned home from college, he wondered whether his father's pixie dust had disappeared. JJ Kapur graduated from Stanford University with Honors and Distinction in Theater and Performance Studies and aminor in Psychology. In 2017, he became the first turbaned ...

8600FT: An Evening with Athlete/ Producer Braydon Bringhurst

The Argyros

Braydon Bringhurst sets out to climb every inch of mountain biking’s iconic trail: “The Whole Enchilada.” Husband. Father. Son. Friend. Professional mountain biker and filmmaker. From a young age, Braydon has loved the process of figuring out a challenge and proving to himself he can accomplish what he sets out to do. Inspired by his family and friends, many of whom are dealing with figurative mountains, in life both big and small, Braydon wanted to show the process of making it up what many would say is an unfathomable climb. Having worked closely with Dr. Craig Manning, a renowned performance psych, throughout his collegiate athletic and academic career, Braydon learned something he wanted to share with others: It’s just as much about the mental strength as it is the physical. With his wife and friends rallying behind him, and putting forth great efforts, we present to you ‘8600 FT.’ Braydon will give a short presentation following the film to discuss how he applied the mental skills learned through his work with Dr. Craig Manning to develop a fearless mind and accomplish his goal. A benefit for The Ketchum Bike Park Trust.

With a career that lasted more than 45 years, Rodney Smith developed a unique style balancing technical mastery and a desire to portray the best of humanity. Long acclaimed for his iconic images that combine portraiture and landscape, Smith created enchanted worlds full of subtle contradictions and surprises. He was a creator who cared deeply about sharing his vision of the world with humor, grace, and optimism. Smith’s work continues to be shown at museums and galleries worldwide. In 2021 the J. Paul Getty Museum acquired ten of his photographs for their permanent ...
