"Land, water, mountains and deserts are what inspire Frances B. Ashforth. Her passion for fly fishing and time spent in remote places has allowed her to experience sparsely populated and wild lands across the United States. In her latest show 'Lay of the Land' at Hemmings Gallery, Ashforth’s paintings, drawings and waterbase monotypes reflect the geography and geology of intersecting habitats that she has visited and studied. She often orients her compositions along a strong horizon line, exploring its relationships within land, water and sky. Ashforth states, “I am acutely aware of the tension and balance within that line. Weather patterns and time of day temper this balance and translate to composition.” She manipulates light, perspective and contrasts within the elements of the studied habitats. Her work can appear deceptively simple and spare, yet by focusing on the details and editing the composition, Ashforth’s work evokes memory and knowledge that can only evolve from the focused study of a particular landscape." Gilman ContemporaryFrances McCormack is a Professor Emerita of Painting at the San Francisco Art Institute who's work as an abstract painter draws on the history of gardens and landscape design. Her paintings are invented spaces or interior theaters that are essentially images of the process of growth and transformation within a contained space. Combining architectural elements and loosely interpreted botanical forms, the paintings hold a range of energies reflected through the natural world. The lush paint, the physicality of execution and the history of decisions are obvious and unapologetically optical. More interested in seduction than instruction or critique she is in pursuit of the marvelous.

Papoose Club’s Pancake Breakfast
Ketchum Town SquarePapoose Pancake Breakfast at Wagon Days has been a community tradition since 1977. Serving an all you can eat country breakfast of pancakes, sausages, and eggs, all flipped, fried and served by club members and local characters. On Saturday, the breakfast is followed by the Big Hitch Parade, one of the largest non-motorized parades in the Pacific Northwest featuring museum quality wagons, buggies, and stagecoaches. The Hailey market will remain in it’s wonderful location- the front of Roberta McKercher Park (Main Street on the south end of town, between 3rd and 4th Avenue)!
