EVENING EXHIBITION TOUR: Bodies of Work: Art & Healing

Sun Valley Museum of Art

Enjoy a preview and tour of the exhibition with the Museum’s curator. Bodies of Work features artwork by contemporary artists who have used their practices as ways of navigating and processing their personal experience of medical illness as well as the experiences of others. Working in a range of media and from widely varying points of view, participating artists include Dylan Mortimer, Estelle L. Roberge, Katherine Sherwood, and Renee Stout with new work by Katherine Shaughnessy and Heather Watkins. Refreshments will be served in the Museum classroom prior to the start of the tour.

Classic Flicks @ HPL

Classic Flicks, a monthly series hosted by the Hailey Public Library, continues with a 1974 classic featuring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow on Thursday, February 8, at 6:00 PM at Town Center West. The romantic drama features class conflicts, the American dream, glamour, obsession, and the extravagant parties of the 1920s. Based on a 1925 masterpiece written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and offered as part of the 2024 Winter Read.

National Honor Sociaety of Dance Induction Ceremony

Tweo dancers will be recognized and inducted as Dance Scholars in NHSDA: Leila Brickley & Clara Gvozdas (Juniors at WRHS). The induction ceremony will take place, Friday, February 9, 7:00 pm at the Community Campus, Hailey. Recognizing: Outstanding artistic merit, leadership and academic achievements in students studying dance at the High School level. The National Dance Honor Society is part of the National Dance Educators Organization and is an approved student program from the Secondary School’s Principals (NASSP).  The WRHS chapter is one of over 300 chapters across the United States that supports excellence in the dance arts, academic achievement and leadership. Our WRHS faculty advisor is Angie Telford with Hilarie Neely, Director FDC, administering the program with 23 members from Footlight Dance Centre participating in this chapter. Dancing is a year round artistic endeavor and passion for those working towards their NHSDA induction.  Dancers must maintain a solid GPA on top of the dance core work.  The requirements to be inducted and thus obtain the honor that can be recognized on transcripts are rigorous, so on the average it takes 2 or more years of study at the high school level before a dancer can be honored as a ...

An open gathering of acoustic musicians of many levels coming together to play traditional tunes of the Celtic, Canadian, Western and many other genres. This is a free community event hosted by a volunteer. Everyone is encouraged to suggest a tune and to play along as they wish. Listeners are welcome, too! We welcome and seek to include all interested people regardless of age, background, economic resources, or ability. Meeting every other Saturday in the The Community Library Lecture Hall from 3:00-5:00 p.m.

Neighborly Spanish is a free, 8-week class taught on Mondays from noon-1:30 PM by retired local Spanish teacher Jim King. The class will offer basic Spanish language skills seasoned with a little history and culture. Enrollment limited to 20. Classes are on Mondays, starting January 22 through March 18. David Gere, Ph.D., is the founding director of the UCLA Art & Global Health Center and is a professor in the UCLA Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance, where he teaches courses in arts activism.
