To kick off the 2025 Winter Read of "Four Treasures of the Sky" by Jenny Tinghui Zhang, we'll be opening a new exhibit, enjoying light refreshments, and sharing how you can participate in this community-wide read! The Winter Read is a community-wide read and collaboration of The Community Library in Ketchum with the Hailey Public Library, Bellevue Public Library, and Stanley Community Library. WORKSHOP: Beginning Fly-Tying with James Gillespie

SVMoA Hailey Classroom

Introduction to Fly-Tying is designed for the beginner with no or minimal experience looking to tie their own flies. In this two-class series, instructor James Gillespie will teach students how to tie classic flies as he shares his knowledge of fly-tying tools, materials, and basic techniques. Participants will leave with the flies they create and the ability to tie a basic fly pattern. All materials and tools will be provided. No prior experience is necessary. If participants have any of their fly-tying tools, they are welcome to bring them. Age and ability: 16+ years old and beginners welcome This 2-session workshop takes place Thu, Jan 30 6–8pm and Thu, Feb 6, 6–8pm at the Hailey Classroom. All supplies will be provided by SVMoA. About the instructor: James Gillespie is a self-taught fisherman who has been fishing his entire life. Tying his own flies has always been a part of his love of fishing, and he looks forward to sharing what he knows with interested students.

LITERACY/CREATIVITY – Footlight Dance Company

Community Campus

Footlight Dance Company’s 2024-25 Dance Enrichment Tour in our Schools will take place January 23 - February 4, 2025. A free community performance will take place - Thursday, January 30, 2025 at the WRHS Performing Arts Theater at the Community Campus - Hailey, Idaho. 7:00 pm Our program this year is entitled “LITERACY - CREATIVITY”. Our performance tour will address the importance of reading to tell our stories of the past, present and future. Under the direction of Hilarie Neely, Artistic Director of Footlight Dance Company, the dancers will use the genres of ballet, modern, tap, jazz and hip hop dance to interpret the power of reading. Our hope is to bring awareness of how movement, visual arts, and reading work together to share and connect us through story telling. We are also excited to be working with The Community Library, Children’s Library on this project. Both DeAnn Campbell and Haley Christianson are working outreaches to local schools that will include curriculum resources to enhance student responses.

Wood River Writers’ Focused Writing Group

Book Club: “The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating”

The Community Library Book Club is hosted the first Wednesday of every other month and led by a diverse range of library staff. Books cover all genres from new fiction to classics to nonfiction, young adult, graphic novels, and everything in between. February's selection is "The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating" by Elisabeth Tova Bailey. The discussion will be led by programs and education director Martha Williams. In a work that beautifully demonstrates the rewards of closely observing nature, Elisabeth Tova Bailey shares an inspiring and intimate story of her encounter with a Neohelix albolabris—a common woodland snail. While an illness keeps her bedridden, Bailey watches a wild snail that has taken up residence on her nightstand. As a result, she discovers the solace and sense of wonder that this mysterious creature brings and comes to a greater understanding of her own place in the world.
