Please join us for the OPENING NIGHT PARTY of PHANTOM WEST, a solo exhibition by Charlotte Hemmings. As part of the local gallery walk evening, Hemmings Gallery invites you to come meet the artist and learn more about the inspiration behind her work. Artist Charlotte Hemmings' mixed media works probe the mythology of the American West, where the spectacle of the rodeo is both subject and metaphor. Hyper-iconic imagery drawn from cowboy and rodeo traditions is transferred onto canvas, then deliberately dismantled through paint—gestural marks, drips, and swaths of raw pigment pulling clarity into collapse. Horses charge into chromatic noise, flags dissolve into paint’s physicality, and dust becomes pure pigment. What begins as an iconic spectacle shifts into a fractured, shimmering residue of memory and myth. This process opens a dialogue about how cultural narratives are constructed, romanticized, and revised. For the artist, that conversation is personal. "As an Idaho native now distanced from fully rural rhythms, I stand in a liminal space—close enough to feel the pull of heritage, yet distant enough to see its contradictions. As Director of Technology for the Blaine County School District, the presenter Paul Zimmerman drives organizational and technological advancement, working with partners such as Google and Nintendo. His own commitment to growth is significant: he holds a Master's Degree in Leadership and Coaching, is currently enrolled in a PhD program for Human Capital Management, and previously earned a Bachelor's of Science of Leadership. Paul served in the United States Air Force and is dedicated to community service, leading Tech Help Desks at The Community Library for over a decade.

Nature Journaling

The Community Library

An intimate journey into the sketchbook world and how drawing can offer a moment of stillness and peace within an often chaotic world. Led by Leslie Rego at The Community Library. This workshop series offers a welcoming and supportive space for people interested in drawing the natural world. The focus will be on nature journaling. Prompts will be offered as well as guidance. Each session we will jump down a “rabbit hole” and study in depth one plant or landscape element or learn about different brushes, paints, papers, and other art supplies. A list of recommended supplies will be sent to registered participants. Thursdays, January 8-29 (four Thursdays). Pre-registration required. Participants are responsible for bringing their own materials. Class series is limited to 15 participants.

This event happens regardless of the weather (don’t worry, we have contingency plans and it will be enjoyable no matter what!). Cost is $130 per person, all inclusive. An exciting series of concerts featuring piano and chamber music, offered March 6-8, 2025 at the Argyros Performing Arts Center in Ketchum. Joyce Yang in concert with Festival Musicians The Sun Valley Music Festival presents its seventh Winter Season at the Argyros Performing Arts Center, from March 6 to 8. The 2025 Winter Season features guest curator and pianist Joyce Yang. A Sun Valley favorite, Ms. Yang has performed several times with Music Director Alasdair Neale and the Festival Orchestra, including the Festival’s Summer Seasons in 2013 (Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1), 2016 (Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F Major), and 2021 (Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2). Ms. Yang rose to fame in 2005 as the youngest contestant and silver medalist at the 12th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. An accomplished chamber musician, she’ll join forces with Festival Orchestra musicians in a program featuring works by Poulenc, Dohnányi, and Schumann. Ms. Yang will also perform solo piano works by Rachmaninoff each evening.
