Neighborly Spanish is a free, 8-week class taught on Mondays from noon-1:30 PM by retired local Spanish teacher Jim King. The class will offer basic Spanish language skills seasoned with a little history and culture. Enrollment limited to 20. Classes are on Mondays, starting January 22 through March 18. A Tiny Beautiful Evening with Cheryl Strayed

Sun Valley Culinary Institute (SVCI) presents the second annual Sun Valley Food & Wine Celebration, March 13 to 16, 2024. The much-anticipated fundraising event to support SVCI student education and forging culinary career opportunities while sustaining the Wood River Valley’s restaurant and hospitality community has expanded to include more events and celebrity chefs. For 2024, SVCI’s four-day Sun Valley Food & Wine Celebration will feature new celebrity chef participants Barton Seaver, award-winning chef, author and seafood expert and John Sundstrom, James Beard Award winner, Northwest. As part of the inaugural Sun Valley Food & Wine Celebration, chefs Jonathon Sawyer, James Beard Award Winner, Great Lakes, Ethan Stowell, “Food & Wine” Best New Chef All-Star and Britt Rescigno, “Chopped Champion” and Beat Bobby Flay are returning to participate in this year’s expanded festival.   New this year, the Sun Valley Food & Wine Celebration has partnered with the Limelight Ketchum Hotel to present an Après Ski Tasting on Saturday, March 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. with all participating chefs, including international Cazadores tequila spokesperson and mixologist Manny Hinojosa. Classic Flicks continues with a 1940 film starring Henry Fonda and directed by John Ford on Thursday, March 14, at 6:00 PM. Widely considered to be one of the greatest films of all times, it is based on the 1939 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name by John Steinbeck. The gritty movie follows a poor Oklahoma family that loses their farm during the Great Depression and ends up in California in search of work. Classic Flicks are the 2nd Thursday of each month. Wood River Writers’ Critique Group

Work with a community of writers on the third Saturday of each month through critiques and craft discussions. Connect to other writers from the Wood River Valley and beyond! Read and critique pages from each participant and learn new aspects of the writing craft. All writing abilities and ages welcome! Join us in the library’s Idaho Room, or online via Zoom. Visit www.comlib.org for the Zoom link. Have no more than 500 words ready for critique. Instructions for the critiques will be provided on the day of. The Wood River Writers’ Groups are led by AJ Super, a local author with a trilogy of science fiction books published by a small traditional press. She is also a Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers’ Association (SFWA) member.

Stand-Up Comedy Series Featuring: Tim Walkoe

Join us at the Sun Valley Opera House for five great nights of stand-up comedy. Each night will feature a different world-class entertainer. These comedians will keep it relatively clean, and generally stay away from politics, though it is always appropriate to warn families that there may be adult language and content. Tim Walkoe “Nonstop laughter from start to finish” is what the Chicago Tribune had to say about the stand-up comedy performance of Tim Walkoe- a comedian that has headlined at over 100 comedy clubs nationwide. A Grand Prize winner on ABC TV’s “America’s Funniest People”, Tim has appeared in a recurring role on Fox TV’s “Murder in Small Town X” as Mayor Emerson Bowden. Other television credits include A&E, HBO, Showtime, TNN, PBS, and recently Fox Sports Net Sports Fans Choice Awards in Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, Boston, Denver, and Dallas.
