The Treasurer

The Argyros

Sun Valley Playwright's Residency in partnership with The Argyros & The Community Library presents THE TREASURER A Play Reading Written & Directed by Max Posner Featuring David Janeski, Billie McBride, Shonda Royall, and Jeremy Shamos MacArthur “Genius” and Idaho native Samuel D. Hunter (The Whale; A Case for the Existence of God) leads a conversation with Sun Valley Playwright's Residency's 2024-2025 Resident Playwright Max Posner followed by a reading of Posner’s hit Off Broadway play, The Treasurer, featuring Wood River Valley-based David Janeski (Gruesome Playground Injuries), Colorado Theatre Guild’s Lifetime Achievement Award Winner Billie McBride (Torch Song Trilogy), Shonda Royall (Clyde’s at Boise Contemporary Theater), and Obie Award Winner and Tony Award nominee Jeremy Shamos (Here We Are; Clybourne Park). Ida Armstrong is broke, lonely, and fading fast. And she’s spending all of her children’s money, forcing her son to assume the unwanted role of The Treasurer: an arrangement that becomes untenable the more he questions his devotion to her. This darkly funny, sharply intimate portrait chronicles the strained ties between a son and his aging mother, and the hell of a guilty conscience.

Jonathan Dely

The Argyros

Jonathan Dely leads a touring All-Star Band, from New York City’s Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center to SFJAZZ in San Francisco to The NAMM Show in Los Angeles, and more. After declining a full-time, six-figure investment banking position on Wall Street to become a solo trumpet artist, Dely earned finalist honors in the National Trumpet Competition, the International Trumpet Guild Jazz Competition, and the Yamaha Young Performing Artist Competition. In 2023, Dely’s journey from Wall Street to the stage caught the eye of Bob Giraldi, legendary filmmaker and director of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It,” who cast Dely in his newest short film Goodbye Jonathan’s Soul, the story of a young musician on the precipice of accepting a lucrative Wall-Street job who wrestles with leaving his jazz band behind forever. Dely graduated with honors from Williams College before earning his Master’s on scholarship at Manhattan School of Music. He is currently preparing for the recording of his debut album. SVFF Monthly Movie – Preconceived

The Argyros

Where does someone turn when facing an unplanned pregnancy? Preconceived is a raw and insightful look into the rise of the enigmatic crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) pervading America. Shedding light on how many of these centers are a part of a movement striving to make abortion unthinkable and illegal, the documentary explores the complex role of deception, finances, faith, and privacy. Preconceived follows the stories of two women, Maleeha in Texas and Maria in Colorado, whose searches to terminate their unplanned pregnancies misled them to anti-abortion centers. The film also features testimonies from individuals on both sides of the issue including leaders of the CPC industry as well as experts who caution why many CPC practices are problematic. Amid a shifting legal landscape, Preconceived underscores the importance of understanding the resources available to pregnant people.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band

The Argyros

Preservation Hall Jazz Band’s mission is to preserve the extraordinary music that evolved in New Orleans around the turn of the century and to bring that music to contemporary audiences. Individually, these musicians represent the industry’s elite, and collectively, they keep alive the traditions of this uniquely American sound. Known for their high energy, crowd-pleasing performances, Preservation Hall Jazz Band has been described by music critics as “the best jazz band in the land.” The Argyros is thrilled to partner with our friends from “Pres Hall” for a unique three night musical journey, the likes of which you’d be hard pressed to find in New Orleans, New York, or anywhere else. The band will play three entirely different shows, and each night the Tierney Theater will be transformed to match the feel of that show’s musical mood. Night one will be a traditional seated concert, featuring many of the beloved Big Easy jazz standards that have made Preservation Hall and the “N’awlins Sound” famous around the world. On night two, the Tierney Theater will be converted into a cabaret-style jazz nightclub, and the song selection will match that more intimate setting. Finally, night three will be a red-hot jazz dance ...
