SVMoA Members are invited to enjoy a preview and exhibition tour of "Snow Show: Winter Now." Refreshments will be served. "Snow Show: Winter Now" explores the past, present, and future of winter and snow sport through the photographic and video work of six contemporary artists. The exhibition invites viewers to consider the ways that we are experiencing winter’s future now, from the impacts of climate change to a world of winter sport that embraces diversity.

WORKSHOP: Basic Drawing Skills with Anne Aganon

SVMoA Hailey Classroom

Join SVMoA Studio Coordinator Anne Aganon to learn basic drawing skills and shading techniques. Over a series of evenings, work from mannequins and still life set-ups to improve your drawing skills with a focus on the human figure and learn more about different drawing media. Use this time in January to prepare for the Open Studios: Figure Drawing or Open Studios: Printmaking sessions starting in February. Pre-registration for each class is recommended; walk-ins accommodated if space is available. Age & ability: 16 and older, all skill levels welcome! WORKSHOP: Beginning Fly-Tying with James Gillespie

Introduction to Fly-Tying is designed for the beginner with no or minimal experience looking to tie their own flies. In this two-class series, instructor James Gillespie will teach students how to tie classic flies as he shares his knowledge of fly-tying tools, materials, and basic techniques. Participants will leave with the flies they create and the ability to tie a basic fly pattern. All materials and tools will be provided. No prior experience is necessary. If participants have any of their fly-tying tools, they are welcome to bring them. Age and ability: 16+ years old and beginners welcome This 2-session workshop takes place Thu, Jan 30 6–8pm and Thu, Feb 6, 6–8pm at the Hailey Classroom. All supplies will be provided by SVMoA. About the instructor: James Gillespie is a self-taught fisherman who has been fishing his entire life. Tying his own flies has always been a part of his love of fishing, and he looks forward to sharing what he knows with interested students.

COMMUNITY PROGRAM: Afternoon Art—Ketchum (for families with kids of all ages)

Play, create, discover, and have fun! Afternoon Art is a free drop-in opportunity for community members of all ages to explore concepts from the Museum's current exhibition and create works of art. Families and friends are encouraged to communicate, reflect, and produce as artists together. Perfect for art lovers, curious minds, and anyone seeking inspiration. Projects will vary. Age & Ability: all ages, families encouraged to attend together Ketchum Afternoon Art runs from 2:30–4:30 pm at the Sun Valley Museum of Art. Afternoon Art is offered in Ketchum on the first Friday of each month and in Hailey on the second Friday from 2:30-4:30pm and are recommended for families with children of all ages. ARTIST TALK: Rob Reynolds

Join Los Angeles-based artist Rob Reynolds for a talk about his work in painting, sculpture, video, sound, and augmented reality (AR). Reynolds will discuss his ongoing project, A Fragile Absolute, which emerges from extensive travels with earth scientists in the Arctic, and the making of his film The Word for Weather is Knowledge, filmed in Greenland in the summer of 2019.

Educator Evening: The Power of Words

Consider the intersection of text and visual art and explore the basics of sketchnotes as you reflect on a creative hero and/or images that inspire your creativity. After looking at examples of artists who use text in their work, educators will create a zine and share, using this activity as a model for fostering community and discussion in our classrooms. This event begins at 5pm at the Museum in Ketchum. About SVMoA Educator Evenings Open to educators of all subject areas, Educator Evening is a FREE professional development series occurring monthly. Blaine County educators may receive in-service (continuing education) hours for their participation. SVMoA shares the names of those BCSD educators who participate with the school district office for in-service district hours. Join educators, visiting artists, and Museum staff for in-person presentations, discussion, and activity based on current exhibitions at SVMoA and connections to the National Core Arts Standards and Idaho Content Standards. Develop curricular connections and gain tools, strategies, and thinking routines for integrating art and objects into everyday classroom learning. WORKSHOP: Intermediate Fly-Tying with Paddy McIlvoy

The Intermediate/Advanced Fly-Tying series is designed for people looking to refine their skills in tying their flies. In this class, instructor Paddy McIlvoy will teach students more advanced techniques for fly tying and working with a greater range of materials. Each class will focus on a single fly, so sign up for one or all three. Participants should know the basics of fly-tying. Participants will leave with the flies they create. All materials and tools will be provided. Age and ability: 16+ years old and intermediate level Registration is per class, not the entire series. Feb 13: Advanced Fly Tying - Spinning Deer Hair. Learn to spin, stack and trim deer hair. Feb 20: Advanced Fly Tying - Composite Loops – Learn to create multi material dubbing loops Feb 27: Advanced Fly Tying - Game Changer Style Streamers – Learn to tie multi-joint streamers that swim, dart, and wiggle. An evening of international guitar virtuosity awaits as Latin Swing master Lulo Reinhardt, grand-nephew of the legendary Django Reinhardt, takes the stage alongside classical guitarist Alexandra Whittingham, Congolese percussive stylist Niwel Tsumbu, and contemporary fingerstyle trailblazer Sönke Meinen.

Teens are invited to Teen Art Night, a free art-making program by and for teens. Work with SVMoA Staff and Teen Interns to create and learn new techniques with art projects inspired by SVMoA's current exhibition. All free and geared toward young people ages 14-20. Pre-registration encouraged, drop-ins welcome No experience necessary. Open to all teenagers of any experience and interest levels, ages 12–18. Teen Night takes place from 5:30–7pm. About Teen Nights Teens are invited to Teen Night, a free art-making program on select Fridays by and for teens. Work with SVMoA Team to create and learn new techniques with art projects inspired by SVMoA’s past and present exhibitions. All free and geared toward young people ages 12–18.
