Hailey Public Library will host “Get Unstuck – From Surviving to Thriving” on Thursday, October 26, at 5:30 PM. The free workshop will help participants gain an understanding of the science behind feeling stuck, followed by easy and effective techniques that help with focus on goals and generate more energy. The instructor, registered nurse and life coach D’Layne Benson, combines 20 years’ experience and a passion for facilitating personal growth. Held at Town Center West.

To celebrate Trailing of the Sheep Festival, the Hailey Public Library is delighted to offer “Learn to Knit” a 5-part class taught by master knitter and Sun Valley Needle Arts owner Patricia Lirk. The free series will focus on the basics and conclude with a personal project. Classes will be held at the Library located at 7 West Croy on Tuesdays from 5:30-7:00 PM, starting October 3. Participants will provide their own yarn and needles. The class is free but space is limited so participants should email kristin.fletcher@haileypubliclibrary.org or call 208-788-2036 to register for the series.

Free Range Poetry Night

The Hailey Public Library and the ad-hoc Free Range Poetry Society will host Free Range Poetry Night on Thursday, November 9, at 5:30 PM at Town Center West. The Society was formed to remind our community of the power and importance of poetry. Free Range poets have permission to roam wherever the words take them. Readers include Florence Blanchard, Sue Bailey, John Fox, Susan Fierman, Kristin Fletcher, Les Shanahan, Mark Spenser and Cit Ananda.

Native Plants/Native Peoples

In recognition of Native American Heritage Month, the Hailey Public Library and the Wood River Chapter – Idaho Native Plant Society will co-host a talk on Native Plants/Native Peoples on Thursday, November 16, from 5:30-7:00 PM. Naturalist Kristin Fletcher will share some of the ways Idaho’s Indigenous peoples relied on native plants to not just survive but thrive in our harsh climate. Free; held at Town Center West.

With all the grim news coming in from around the world, the Hailey Public Library is offering a hopeful project to fold 1,000 Origami cranes in partnership with our community. Cranes are a symbol of peace in many Asian countries. Two, 2-hour workshops will be offered at Town Center West in Hailey, from 5:30-7:30 PM on Thursday, December 7 and another from 2:00-4:00 PM on Saturday, December 9. The free workshops can be taken singly or together. Materials will be provided. Each workshop begins with a short loving kindness meditation followed by a lesson in folding Origami cranes. Participants will then be invited to take their new skills and Origami paper home and fold more cranes with family and friends. Finished cranes will be gathered on December 18 at HPL and hung in the library on the Winter Solstice, December 21, where they will remain on display for a month.

Classic Flicks at the Library

The Hailey Public Library is launching Classic Flicks, a monthly series of free screenings on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. The series will kick off on Thursday, January 11, at 6:00 PM at Town Center West with a 1941 classic film noir staring Humphrey Bogart as private detective Sam Spade. The movie is filled with murder and intrigue and is based on a 1930 novel by Dashiell Hammett.

Wanderlust: Morocco – A Feast for the Senses

The Hailey Public Library is inviting the community to travel the world, virtually! Wanderlust, a new monthly series, taps local folks who’ve been on an interesting trip somewhere near or far and are willing to share it. On Thursday, January 18, artist and naturalist Lisa Horton launches the series with Morocco - A Feast for the Senses. The free talk will be offered at Town Center West, 116 S Croy, at 5:30 PM.

Fix-It Clinic

Hailey Public Library is partnering with the Climate Action Coalition and local experts to host a free fix-it clinic on Saturday, January 27, from Noon – 4:00 PM for small, carry-in-sized household items. Half-hour appointments set up on-site will offer guided assistance with volunteer coaches to help disassemble, troubleshoot, and, hopefully, fix personal items. The clinic will be held at Town Center West, 116 S River.
