Open House: Flood Risk & Draft FEMA Map Changes

1

Blaine County, Ketchum, Hailey, and Bellevue are hosting a Flood Risk Open House with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on June 1, 2026. This event will provide information about the updated Flood Insurance Rate Map along the Big Wood River, and neighboring streams and how this may directly affect residents and the processes in which to appeal. The 90-day appeal period for Public Comment is May 27 to August 25, 2026.

Visit this link to view the updated flood maps and explore potential property risks.

  • Why are the flood maps changing? Flood risk changes over time, and the mapping technology has been improved. FEMA is working with the state, the county, and local communities to use newer data and technology to update the flood maps. New maps provide communities with an opportunity to learn about flood risks, leading to more informed decisions about damage and loss prevention.
  • What does this mean for me? The new flood map, known as a Flood Insurance Rate Map, shows areas of high, moderate, and low flood risk. It will help guide financial, planning, investment, and development decisions.

People who own structures in high-risk areas will need to have flood insurance if they have a loan from a federally regulated or insured lender. Citizens are encouraged to learn about their flood risk and buy flood insurance.
