SUN VALLEY, Idaho – Online registration will soon open for the 47th Annual Baldy Hill Climb, which will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27. For the past 46 years, come rain, sun, or even snow, runners and hikers have made their way up Bald Mountain in support of Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation (SVSEF) cross country programming.
Organized by the SVSEF Cross Country Ski Teams, the course challenges participants to a grueling 1.86 miles and 3,140 vertical feet—straight up from the bottom of Warm Springs to the summit of Bald Mountain at 9,020 feet. All participants receive a collectible event t-shirt and a refuel at the summit aid station. In addition, and in partnership with Sun Valley Company, participants receive a much-deserved ride down on the Challenger Lift after they finish.
There are a variety of registration categories:
Race Class: The original competitive and timed option for those looking to challenge themselves to push for their best pace. This category will be presented with awards (and bragging rights!).
For those who are in less of a hurry you can register in the Hike Class which is a timed, non-competitive category emphasizing fun and adventure.
Families are also encouraged to join in the fun by registering for the Family Team category. To compete in this category, you must have a minimum of three (3) family members all signed up for the Race Class category. The award for the fastest family will be presented to those with the lowest cumulative times for the quickest three family members.
Youth participants (8-ish and younger) are encouraged to scramble up a 200yd climb as part of the FREE Kinderclimb! No advance registration is needed for this event which typically takes future Baldy Hill Climb runners 8-12 minutes to complete. “Race” begins at 8:30 a.m.!
