Thunderpussy What is fire? From a scientific standpoint, many still aren’t sure. Heat and light, dancing and flare. We can describe its chemical reaction, but why—yes, why—it looks as it does, that’s still a deep curiosity. Fire, with its impossible to predict form, is a mystery. Fire is also West, the new studio album from the Seattle-born rock and roll group Thunderpussy. The band breathes it. Cultivates, tames and scorches with it. Fire, in the contemporary linguistic sense, is also a sign of all that is good. It’s that good burn. So, in that way, listeners of West are in for a titillating treat. The new LP begins with a promise. An internal affirmation, a hopeful prayer. Lithe lead singer Molly Sides declares, her voice like flame on the track, “I can do better.” Her sound, like her literal body onstage, bends and shifts. Incandescent. As lead guitar player Whitney Petty performs a rumbling echo, like felled timber. Fire is the sign of sustenance. It's no wonder, then, why Thunderpussy has earned attention from the important outlets in music culture. Author Rebecca Anne Nguyen joins us to discuss her new novel, "The 23rd Hero": On the verge of being forced to live in an underground bunker due to climate crisis, an ordinary woman with an extraordinary memory is recruited for a time travel program to stop environmental disasters before they happen. The Space welcomes you for a casual open house style gathering to learn more about how The Space is transforming teens' relationship with their education.

An intimate journey into the sketchbook world and how drawing can offer a moment of stillness and peace within an often chaotic world. Led by artist Leslie Rego. Thursdays, December 5-19 and January 16-23 (five Thursdays). Registration required. This workshop series offers a welcoming and supportive space for people interested in drawing the natural world. The focus will be on nature journaling. Prompts will be offered as well as guidance. Each session we will jump down a “rabbit hole” and study in depth one plant or landscape element or learn about different brushes, paints, papers, and other art supplies. A list of recommended supplies will be sent to registered participants. Leslie Rego has drawn in journals for years. She carries sketchbooks and paints with her while enjoying the national forest and will take time to draw and paint landscapes and flowers on her many hikes. Leslie wrote the "Sketchbook Hiking" article in The Weekly Sun for many years. She has artwork in private collections, The Sun Valley Lodge and around the world.

Join the Friends of the Sawtooth Avalanche Center for a 90 minute presentation based on the Know Before You Go platform, introducing basic concepts about snow, avalanches, and traveling safely in and near avalanche terrain. Learn from the Friends of SAC instructor team of snow experts, mountain guides, and experienced avalanche educators. We invite everyone to join if you’re learning about avalanches for the first time or are a seasoned backcountry user ready for a yearly refresher. No registration is needed for the presentation. Brap Ski 4 celebrates the 2 funnest sports on planet earth: brappin' and skiin' “Karl Fostvedt has been dropping “Brap Ski” films for almost half a decade. In that time, he’s come up with some down-right wild ideas. Last year, the crew skied through the Southern Utah desert, painting silky turns and finding airs amongst the red rock walls. This year, they (somehow) stepped it up by returning to old stomping grounds and finding new spots, too. Along with Thayne Rich, Addie and Toby Rafford, McRae Williams and more, Fostvedt cooked up a few of the best segments we’ve seen so far this fall. Join The Community Library for a conversation with Dana Genshaft, a distinguished figure in the dance world, renowned for her multifaceted career as a dancer, choreographer, and educator. Genshaft was a Writer-in-Residence at the Hemingway House with The Community Library in June 2024, in partnership with Ballet Sun Valley (BSV). During her time in residency, she began developing a new piece for BSV: "Undertow," which was performed at the company's October performance at The Argyros with San Francisco Ballet Pre-Professional Dancers. Genshaft will be in conversation with the library's executive director, Jenny Emery Davidson, about her residency, how she begins to choreograph a new piece, and working with dancers to bring the vision to the stage. They'll also share a recording of the October performance of Undertow (9 minutes) during their conversation.

As the holidays approach, Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) wants to have a perfect family Christmas, so he pesters his wife, Ellen (Beverly D'Angelo), and children, as he tries to make sure everything is in line, including the tree and house decorations. Join the Friends of the Sawtooth Avalanche Center instructors for a field day covering avalanche rescue basics, snowpack layering, avalanche terrain identification, and basic backcountry travel. Please note- you need to have attended a Friends’ Introduction to Avalanches presentation prior to participating in the field day. The first presentation of this year is December 19th at the Community Library in Ketchum. There is a $50 suggested donation to the Friends of SAC to cover instructor costs.
