Speakers include National Book Award Winner Sherman Alexie, Associate Editor of The Letters of Ernest Hemingway Dr. Verna Kale, Dr. Marc Seals of the University of Wisconsin–Baraboo, and Drs. For the 6th year, the Sun Valley Museum of Art presents the MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival. From September 28 through October 8, this unique festival brings together over 100,000 filmgoers in over 500 cities and towns across 6 continents. The Festival curates a wide variety of films from around the world, and the jury includes ALL film attendees from around the globe, including our Ketchum audience! The Ten MANHATTAN SHORT Finalists hail from eight countries, with films from Australia, Afghanistan, Finland, Iran, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Canada, alongside three films from the USA. The 2023 line-up is linked by a common theme: how we face adversity, whether it is imposed by others or arises from personal circumstances. The ten films in the program feature narratives that are dramatic, sometimes humorous, occasionally magical, and always inspirational! The Hailey Public Library’s Cultura series concludes with a visit to Cali, the second largest city in Colombia, known as the “Rumba Capital” of the world. Los Angeles violinista and educator Mauricio Molino will share personal stories, images, and conversation about his home country, and play the violin. The presentation will be held Sunday, October 8, 2;00-4:00 PM at Town Center West.

28th Annual Trailing of the Sheep Festival

The 28th annual Trailing of the Sheep Festival will be held October, 2-6, 2024! Sheep have been trailing through the Wood River Valley of Idaho for well over a century and are an integral part of Idaho’s heritage. Each fall the iconic Trailing of the Sheep Festival honors the 150+ year annual tradition of moving sheep (‘trailing’) from high mountain summer pastures down through the Valley to traditional winter grazing and lambing areas in the south. This annual migration is living history and the focus of a unique and authentic Festival that celebrates the sheep, herders, history, food, arts, cultures, and traditions of Idaho’s sheep ranching families, highlighting the principal contributors – the Basques, Scottish and Peruvians. 2024 Festival Highlights include: Big Sheep Parade with 1,500 sheep trailing down Main Street in Ketchum, Idaho.
