Footlight is pleased to celebrate, MANY VOICES – a weaving of professional guest artists from the Boise area, Chicago and beyond who have been touched by dance education with Footlight Dance Centre. Monday – Friday, July 22-26 they will conduct a workshop intensive at the Footlight Studios at the Community Campus, Hailey for ages 10-adult. Three levels will be offered: Advanced, Intermediate and Juniors. On Saturday, July 27, 7:00 pm, these guest artists, and workshop students, including other alumni, will present a performance in celebration of this 40th Anniversary of Footlight Dance Centre. Tickets $10.00 at Iconoclast Books, Hailey and at the Door (WRHS Performing Arts Theater, Community Campus, 1050 Fox Acres, Hailey). Performances by Adrienne Kerr, Principal dancer from Ballet Idaho & Lydia Sakolsky-Basquill from Project Flux (summer faculty with FDC) will dance a duet. Lem Reagan (former FDC alum) and Libby Schmoeger from Idaho Dance Theatre will dance a piece commissioned from choreographer Kaley Pruitt (former FDC alum), Artistic Director of Kaley Pruitt Dance. Dance Dialogues with Garrett Anderson

The Community Library

A discussion exploring how we define and understand the dance landscape from contemporary dance to classical ballet, with Garrett Anderson, Executive Director and Artistic Director of Ballet Idaho. Garrett received training from some of the country’s premier academies and danced with The San Francisco Ballet, Royal Ballet of Flanders, Trey McIntyre Project, and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. Over the course of a 20-year professional career in both classical ballet and contemporary dance companies, he worked with some of the world’s most celebrated choreographers and directors. After his full-time performing career, Garrett became Chair of the Dance Dept. at New Mexico School for the Arts in Santa Fe, then moved to Boise, where he has served as Artistic Director of Ballet Idaho since 2018.

Ballet Idaho

The Argyros

Ballet Idaho is thrilled to be presenting an anthology of work at The Argyros this November. The program will be stylistically diverse and provide an intimate showcase for the artistry and athleticism of Ballet Idaho’s dancers. Congruence was jointly choreographed by Anne Mueller and Garrett Anderson, set to the music of Chicago-based composer, Marc Mellits. This piece is an exploration of creative synergy and collaboration between two choreographers, the talented performers, and Mellits’ nuanced musical phrasing. Terrance Marling’s Twice (Once) is set to the gorgeous music of contemporary composer Anna Clyne’s Within Her Arms. This is a subtle yet stirring piece that contemplates the afterlife, drawn from personal experiences of both composer and choreographer. Clyne wrote this piece of music honoring the passing of her mother, and Marling’s response drew upon his own near-death experience as a child. While the inspiration explores images of mortality and afterlife, this work is an uplifting and poignant abstraction of the human spirit. Danielle Rowe created For Pixie, inspired by the life and love of her own grandparents. In this powerful duet to the music of Nina Simone’s Wild is the Wind, Rowe explores the emotional interdependence between two lifelong companions embodied in captivating ...

Footlight Dance will be spreading holiday cheer as they bring a performance to the Senior Connection in Hailey, on Thursday, December 12, performing at 12:20 pm. This is part of Footlight Dances' Community Outreach program presented free of charge. Our Intermediate Ballet 3/4 and Tap 2/3 students will be performing. Our performers attend Blaine County Middle and High Schools. Hilarie Neely, Artistic Director, Robyn Fox & Mackenzie King, faculty, have choreographed holiday dances that will entertain and bring cheer to one and all. This season we will also be joined by student musicians who study with the Sun Valley Music Festival School of Music - performing holiday classics. “Dance is an art form that warms the heart when children are dancing,” says director Hilarie Neely. “The students look forward to the holiday season and dancing for our community Seniors.” The seasonal tap and ballet pieces are sure to get your spirits ready for the holidays.

“Undertow”: An Idaho-Inspired Dance

Join The Community Library for a conversation with Dana Genshaft, a distinguished figure in the dance world, renowned for her multifaceted career as a dancer, choreographer, and educator. Genshaft was a Writer-in-Residence at the Hemingway House with The Community Library in June 2024, in partnership with Ballet Sun Valley (BSV). During her time in residency, she began developing a new piece for BSV: "Undertow," which was performed at the company's October performance at The Argyros with San Francisco Ballet Pre-Professional Dancers. Genshaft will be in conversation with the library's executive director, Jenny Emery Davidson, about her residency, how she begins to choreograph a new piece, and working with dancers to bring the vision to the stage. They'll also share a recording of the October performance of Undertow (9 minutes) during their conversation.
