Full Circle: A Higher Ground Screening – The Liberty Theater

Higher Ground, a local Wood River Valley nonprofit for outdoor recreational therapy, is excited to host a screening of Full Circle, a moving documentary about two adaptive athletes—Trevor and Barry—whose lives, though separated by decades, mirror each other in resilience and determination. Both men faced life-changing spinal cord injuries but found ways to thrive, transforming obstacles into achievements. Join us for this inspiring look at resilience, post-traumatic growth, and the extraordinary power of the human spirit, and get excited for the winter season ahead! Holiday Spirit with Footlight Dancers

The Senior Connection

Footlight Dance will be spreading holiday cheer as they bring a performance to the Senior Connection in Hailey, on Thursday, December 12, performing at 12:20 pm. This is part of Footlight Dances' Community Outreach program presented free of charge. Our Intermediate Ballet 3/4 and Tap 2/3 students will be performing. Our performers attend Blaine County Middle and High Schools. Hilarie Neely, Artistic Director, Robyn Fox & Mackenzie King, faculty, have choreographed holiday dances that will entertain and bring cheer to one and all. This season we will also be joined by student musicians who study with the Sun Valley Music Festival School of Music - performing holiday classics. “Dance is an art form that warms the heart when children are dancing,” says director Hilarie Neely. “The students look forward to the holiday season and dancing for our community Seniors.” The seasonal tap and ballet pieces are sure to get your spirits ready for the holidays.

An intimate journey into the sketchbook world and how drawing can offer a moment of stillness and peace within an often chaotic world. Led by artist Leslie Rego. Thursdays, December 5-19 and January 16-23 (five Thursdays). Registration required. This workshop series offers a welcoming and supportive space for people interested in drawing the natural world. The focus will be on nature journaling. Prompts will be offered as well as guidance. Each session we will jump down a “rabbit hole” and study in depth one plant or landscape element or learn about different brushes, paints, papers, and other art supplies. A list of recommended supplies will be sent to registered participants. Leslie Rego has drawn in journals for years. She carries sketchbooks and paints with her while enjoying the national forest and will take time to draw and paint landscapes and flowers on her many hikes. Leslie wrote the "Sketchbook Hiking" article in The Weekly Sun for many years. She has artwork in private collections, The Sun Valley Lodge and around the world.

Book Launch: “Salmon Moon: The River of No Return”

"Salmon Moon: The River of No Return" is the sixth book in local author Julie Weston’s historical fiction series of Nellie Burns and Moonshine mysteries. Following photographer Nellie Burns and her black Lab, Moonshine, the story takes place along the Salmon River from the Sunbeam Dam to Riggins, Idaho. In and out of the Salmon River, Nellie, her husband, Nurse Janie, Moonie, and river sweeper Ace chase a criminal gang who stole a miner’s poke and left two men for dead. Mystery and adventure all in one! A book signing with Iconoclast Books will follow. Julie Weston grew up in Kellogg, Idaho, where the mountains, mines, and people shaped her. She attended the University of Washington, where she also earned her law degree, and spent many years as a tax, corporate and business lawyer. Her short stories and essays have appeared in IDAHO Magazine, The Threepenny Review, River Styx, and Clackamas Literary Review, among others. Origami Cranes Peace Project

The Hailey Public Library is inviting the community to participate in the 3rd annual, valley-wide project to fold hundreds of Origami cranes to promote peace and honor the holiday season. Cranes will be folded during 2 free workshops and then displayed at the library starting on the Winter Solstice, December 21. The 2-hour, facilitated workshops will be held at Town Center West, 116 S River in Hailey, from 5:30-7:30 PM on Thursday, December 12. Another workshop will be offered from 2:00-4:00 PM on Saturday, December 14. Each workshop begins with a short loving kindness meditation followed by a lesson in folding Origami cranes. In addition, young children are invited to fold fun versions of simple Origami birds and dogs by visiting the Maker Space at the Hailey Public Library. All materials will be available. Play, create, discover, and have fun! Afternoon Art is a free drop-in opportunity for community members of all ages to explore concepts from the Museum's current exhibition and create works of art. Families and friends are encouraged to communicate, reflect, and produce as artists together. Perfect for art lovers, curious minds, and anyone seeking inspiration. Projects will vary. Age & Ability: all ages, families encouraged to attend together Hailey Afternoon Art runs from 1:30–4:30pm at SVMoA's Hailey Classroom. Afternoon Art is offered in Ketchum on the first Friday of each month and in Hailey on the second Friday from 1:30-4:30pm and are recommended for families with children of all ages. BCRD Ski Free Day & Learn to Nordic Ski at Galena

On Saturday, December 14th the BCRD is offering free ski passes for both Nordic skiing and snowshoeing on all of the BCRD trail system including Galena Lodge. In addition, Elephant's Perch and Backwoods are hosting an Equipment Demo Day at Galena Lodge. Whether you're a seasoned skier or new to the sport, this is a perfect opportunity to try out the latest skiing gear. With expert advice available, you can find the equipment that best suits your style and needs. In addition, Galena Lodge will be offering free 30 minute beginner ski lessons at 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 12:00 pm, and 1:00 pm. No registration required.
