Event Series Disgraced

Disgraced

Liberty Theater

Disgraced Feb 16 – Mar 2 Performed at The Liberty Theater Presented by The Liberty Theatre Company In this Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Ayad Akhtar (Homeland Elegies), we find ourselves immersed in the New York City life of Amir and Emily, a couple whose seemingly charmed existence is a compelling facade for the complexities beneath. Disgraced delves into the intricacies of personal and cultural identity, navigating the tensions that arise when these facets collide and fosters a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding diversity, religion, and self-discovery. Directed by Catherine Eaton & Sami Bass. Tickets at LibertyTheatreCompany.org. *JOIN OUR DISGRACED COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS! If you hold a ticket to any performance of Disgraced, you are invited to either (or both) of our Community Conversations where TLTC will unpack the important ideas that Disgraced explores. Join us on Feb 17 @8:45pm and/or on Feb 25 @3:45pm at The Liberty Theater.

“Places We Left Behind” A Virtual Conversation with Jennifer Lang

The Community Library

When American-born Jennifer falls in love with French-born Philippe during the First Intifada in Israel, she understands their relationship isn't perfect. Both 23, both Jewish, they lead very different lives: she's a secular tourist, he's an observant immigrant. Despite their opposing outlooks on two fundamental issues—country and religion—they are determined to make it work. For the next 20 years, they root and uproot their growing family, each longing for a singular place to call home. In "Places We Left Behind," Jennifer puts her marriage under a microscope, examining commitment and compromise, faith and family while moving between prose and poetry, playing with language and form, daring the reader to read between the lines. Join us for a virtual conversation with Jennifer, who will join us over Zoom. This program will be livestreamed, and attendees are also welcome to join us in the library's John A. and Carole O. Moran Lecture Hall. Presented in partnership with the Wood River Jewish Community. Born in the San Francisco Bay Area, Jennifer Lang lives in Tel Aviv, where she runs israelwriterstudio.com. Her prize-winning essays appear in Baltimore Review, Under the Sun, Midway Journal, and elsewhere. She holds an MFA from Vermont College of Fine ...
