BCRD Ski Free Day!
Wood River TrailFor four days this season, BCRD welcomes the community to enjoy free Nordic skiing and snowshoeing on all BCRD winter trails. The 32-kilometer multi-use Wood River Trail, which runs from Ketchum to Bellevue, is always free. The Wood River Trail is groomed every other day and is open to skiers, walkers, dogs, and fat-bikes. The Ski Free Days for the 2023/24 season are: Saturday, December 9 Sunday, January 7 Saturday, February 24 Wednesday, March 27
Bald Mountain Tours
River Run LodgeJoin us for a complimentary Bald Mountain Tour, offered every Monday, Wednesday & Friday throughout the winter season. Tours meet at 9:30am in the Mountain View Room at River Run Lodge and are guided by one of the friendly members of our Mountain Guest Services team (yellow coats). They will guide you around Bald Mountain’s vast terrain, share where the best skiing and riding is and wow you with some amazing historical facts about Sun Valley. Tours are open for all ski levels.

Bald MountainJoin is for our Ski with a Ranger tours on Bald Mountain every Tuesday and Thursday this winter season. A Forest Service ranger meets interested guests at the Bald Mountain Map near Sun Valley’s Lookout Restaurant. The tour lasts a pleasant hour while skiing the mountain making three stops for the ranger to give his talk. Topics covered include a wealth of interesting information about local history, geography, geology, the Bald Mountain Stewardship program, expansion plans and local public lands.

Hemingway and Skiing with John Lundin
The Community LibraryHistorian and author John W. Lundin will explore Ernest Hemingway’s relationship to skiing, from the Alps to Idaho, and how skiing was an important part of the writer's life, key to his coming of age, and provided themes he incorporated into his later writings. Hemingway developed his love for skiing in the Alps during the 1920s while dealing with gruesome injuries suffered during World War I and living as an expatriate in Paris as a member of the “lost generation.” Between 1922 to 1926, he spent winters in the Alps, perfecting his craft and writing his first works, and skiing in the afternoons with his first wife Hadley Richardson. Hemingway threw himself into skiing, excited by the physically demanding nature of the sport in the 1920s, the challenge of climbing mountains using skins, and racing down glaciers in untracked snow, experiencing avalanches and crevasses, perhaps as a way of dealing with troubled memories of his traumatic war years. His association with Sun Valley, Idaho, began in 1939 when he accepted an invitation to stay at the resort compliments of Union Pacific in exchange for its right to use his image for publicity. Hailey Town Center WestThe Hailey Public Library and the newly-formed Free Range Poetry Society will host their 2nd poetry night on Thursday, March 28, at 5:30 PM at Town Center West. The free event celebrates the power and importance of poetry and helps kick off Poetry Month in April. Free Range poets have permission to roam wherever the words take them and readers will include Florence Blanchard, Ted Dyer, Sue Bailey, John Fox, Susan Fierman, Les Shanahan, Andrea Pierceall and Cit Ananda.
