Space is limited for Winter Season performances, reservations are required (reserved seats are limited to two seats per household per program for a total of four for the Winter Season.). About the Sun Valley Music Festival The Sun Valley Music Festival’s mission is to enrich, inspire, and instill in our community a lifelong love of classical music through extraordinary free concerts and education programs. Festival programs provide opportunities for people from all walks of life to listen, learn, and play. Now in its 40th year, it is the largest privately supported, free-admission orchestra in the United States. Over 100 world-class musicians from North America’s most distinguished orchestras, including the San Francisco Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, and Houston Symphony, comprise the Festival Orchestra. Summer Season concerts are held in July and August at the spectacular R.E. Holding Sun Valley Pavilion, in the mountain resort town of Sun Valley, Idaho. Join us for an afternoon with author and illustrator Nathan Hale, who will be signing books and meeting with young readers in the Library's Lecture Hall. Nathan Hale is the author and illustrator of the Eisner-nominated, New York Times bestselling graphic novel series on American history Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales. He also created the sci-fi horror comics ONE TRICK PONY and APOCALYPSE TACO. He is the illustrator of the graphic novel RAPUNZEL’S REVENGE and its sequel, CALAMITY JACK. He also illustrated Frankenstein: A Monstrous Parody, The Dinosaurs' Night Before Christmas, and many others. He lives in Utah.
This workshop is part of the 101 series that are designed to be an overview of topics to build confidence in common mechanical issues as well as technical tips to increase your riding comfort and preparedness. This particular workshop will cover how to properly clean your bike and care for and maintain your drivetrain. Learn about the history of the old Galena mining camp and about the local animals who leave their tracks in the snow during a free Snowshoe with a Ranger tour. The Sawtooth National Recreation Area is offering free snowshoe tours at 11 a.m. Thursdays through March 6th and at 10am March 13 & 20th, leaving from the porch of Galena lodge. The snowshoe trip lasts about two hours, covering 1.5 miles with stops along the way. Tour-goers will learn about the winter ecology and more during the tour. A free one-day Blaine County Recreation district snowshoe pass will be provided. Snowshoes can be rented at Galena Lodge. Snowshoers are advised to dress warmly in layers, wear insulated waterproof boots, gloves, hats, sunglasses and sunscreen. Dogs and other pets are not allowed on these particular tours. An intimate journey into the sketchbook world and how drawing can offer a moment of stillness and peace within an often chaotic world. Led by artist Leslie Rego. Thursdays, February 27 - March 27, 2025 (five Thursdays). Registration required. This workshop series offers a welcoming and supportive space for people interested in drawing the natural world. The focus will be on nature journaling. Prompts will be offered as well as guidance. Each session we will jump down a “rabbit hole” and study in depth one plant or landscape element or learn about different brushes, paints, papers, and other art supplies. A list of recommended supplies will be sent to registered participants. Leslie Rego has drawn in journals for years. She carries sketchbooks and paints with her while enjoying the national forest and will take time to draw and paint landscapes and flowers on her many hikes. Leslie wrote the "Sketchbook Hiking" article in The Weekly Sun for many years. She has artwork in private collections, The Sun Valley Lodge and around the world.
This workshop is part of the 201 series and are designed for a maximum of 4 participants. These workshops with be hands on and intensive for participants to develop strong mechanical skills to perform regular maintenance independently. These topics are complex and will require more time and materials to support proficiency. Participants should plan to bring their own bicycles. The series is designed so that participants can fully tune their bikes for the spring riding season. All materials (such as: rim tape, sealant, seal kits, cable & housing) as well as coffee and pastries are included in the price of the workshop.
Saturdays, November 2 – April 5, from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm Co-work with a community of writers the first Saturday of each month for focused writing and craft discussions and connect to other writers from the Wood River Valley and beyond! All writing abilities and ages welcome. Join us in The Community Library’s Idaho Room, or online via Zoom. The Wood River Writers’ Groups are led by AJ Super, a local author with a trilogy of science fiction books published by a small traditional press. She is also a Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers’ Association (SFWA) member.
