Environmental Resource Center

The Environmental Resource Center (ERC) is a community-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides education and inspires action to cultivate a healthy environment in the Wood River Valley.

In focusing on the following five program areas, the ERC is committed to creating a more sustainable community and environment - the environment upon which our health, well-being, and economy directly depend.

Youth Education: hands-on programs that inspire a sense of environmental curiosity in youth and provide them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to become the next generation of environmental stewards. Youth programs include in-school and after-school programs; overnight summer camps, and collaborative programs with local partners for public and private school students, grades pre-k to 12.

Pesticide Action: This program works to reduce the use of pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers in the Wood River Valley. In collaboration with community partners, the ERC’s outreach focuses on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices where non-chemical alternatives are considered first and foremost, and chemicals, when necessary, are used in small quantities and as a last resort.

Recycling Outreach and Action: A program in collaboration with Blaine County’s recycling program, 5B Recycles, to facilitate recycling at large and small events; offer a collection site for some recyclables; and provide engaging outreach that educates the community on local recycling practices.

PUP (Pick Up for the Planet):  A program in collaboration with governmental agencies and other user groups, to lessen the aesthetic, environmental, and health impacts of unattended dog waste at Wood River Valley trailheads.  The PUP program offers educational signage, dog waste bags, and weekly bin servicing provided at no charge to the community.

Connecting People to Nature: Programs that instill in residents and visitors a deeper appreciation for the Wood River Valley’s natural environment, as well as programs that provide a venue for conversation on important environmental issues.

Hours of Operation:

The Environmental Resource Center (ERC) is open from 9-am-5pm, Monday through Friday.
