My 66 Years as an Artist with Jim Caldwell In-Person
Jim Caldwell’s career as an artist spans over 60 years, but that career is intertwined with his practice as an architect, teacher and art historian. This talk is a nostalgic look back at those careers as Jim turns 84.
Born in New York in 1942, Jim Caldwell has spent most of his life in the San Francisco Bay Area. He graduated from Williams College in 1964 as an Art Major, and spent the next year in Paris studying printing and etching at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. In 1969 he received his Master of Architecture Degree from the Yale School of Architecture. He started painting actively again 40 years ago, and has since accumulated an impressive body of work.
Presented in partnership with the Sun Valley Museum of Art, where Jim is teaching a week-long class on Line and Color, August 3-7, 2026. Learn more about the class at www.svmoa.org/events/adult-classes/2026-08-03/line-and-color.
