Nordic Skiing & Snowshoeing
It’s not tacky, dated sweater fashion that’s being celebrated when Sun Valley is hailed as “Nordic Town USA.”
This is some of the best and definitely most immaculately groomed Nordic ski terrain in the US.
With 200 km+/- of networked trails, linking the south valley to the north as well as several spur Nordic track networks, it's one of the most expansive and convenient trail systems anwhere.
Sun Valley is such a (freakishly aerobic) Nordic mecca that the US Olympic Committee designated it the country's first Nordic Olympic Training Site and Paralympic Training Site for the world's best athletes.
Need gear, lessons, a shoulder to cry on? We've got a wide-ranging line-up of specialty retailers and XC skiing fanatics who offer rentals, instruction, guided tours and other activities at Galena Lodge and the Sun Valley Nordic Center.
You can Nordic ski out your door from anywhere in Sun Valley, Ketchum and Hailey, thanks to the Blaine County Recreation District’s (BCRD) 160 km network of trails throughout the Wood River Valley, including the free 30km Wood River Trail and the pass-accessed North Valley Trails, Croy Nordic and Alturas Lake systems.
Want to immerse yourself in a cold bath of all things Nordic? Check out the Sun Valley Nordic Festival, the coming together of an unashamed cult of the skinny ski at the end of January each winter.
And if maneuvering with a slightly larger footprint is your preferred way to travel on snow, there’s always snowshoeing on dedicated trails and across the great white landscape.
