To celebrate National Poetry Month, Hailey Public Library is joining the Free-Range Poetry Society to host an open mic night for poetry lovers on Thursday, April 25, at 5:30 PM at Town Center West. Poets are invited to read their own poems or favorites written by someone else. Free Range poets have permission to roam wherever the words take them. Open mic readers will include Tom Blanchard, Marshall Ralph, Sue Bailey, Kristin Fletcher and Les Shanahan. Reading slots are limited and each poet will have 5 minutes to read. Organizers are seeking more readers so those interested are encouraged to sign up in advance by emailing kristin.fletcher@haileypubliclibrary.org.

Wood River Valley Climate Action Coalition’s Earth Fest

Earth Fest returns to the valley, for our 4th year, to come together as a community and celebrate the planet we all love to live on.  Get ready to enjoy games, food, raffles and inspiring tips on how Circularity within our homes and community can help us become more sustainable and resilient on our only Class M planet. There will be a 5K road race, music, games, and interactive booths. This year’s theme is "Circularity" with a focus on the importance of reducing, reusing, regenerating, rethinking, or redesigning of our management of all of our natural resources. Schedule: Earth Day 5K: 10:00am Dust off those running shoes!   The annual 5K Road race/walk will begin at 10:00 in the alley behind the Hailey library/City Hall.  All registration is onsite and will open at 9:00 am, Saturday, April 20th.  The run/walk will take you through the neighborhoods south of Croy and west of River/Broadford Road. Registration fee is Adults= $10, children under 12=FREE. Classic Flicks @ HPL

Classic Flicks at HPL celebrates spring showers with a 1952 musical romantic comedy starring the light-footed Gene Kelly getting wet while showing off his famous dance steps with Debbie Reynolds. It is considered by many to be the greatest musical film ever made and one of the greatest movies of all time. The film will be shown at 6:00 PM at Town Center West, 116 S River St., in Hailey. Wanderlust: Hiking the Great Rift

The Hailey Public Library will host Hiking the Great Rift, a talk by retired park ranger Ted Stout and part of the Wanderlust series inviting the community to travel the world, virtually. In 2014 Ted and a few friends embarked on a week-long expedition across the forbidding terrain of Craters of the Moon National Monument. The talk, featuring stunning images by local photographer Craig Wolfrom, will be held Thursday, April 4, at 5:30 PM at Town Center West, 7 W Croy, and live streamed.

The Hailey Public Library and the newly-formed Free Range Poetry Society will host their 2nd poetry night on Thursday, March 28, at 5:30 PM at Town Center West. The free event celebrates the power and importance of poetry and helps kick off Poetry Month in April. Free Range poets have permission to roam wherever the words take them and readers will include Florence Blanchard, Ted Dyer, Sue Bailey, John Fox, Susan Fierman, Les Shanahan, Andrea Pierceall and Cit Ananda.

Wanderlust: The Eastern Himalaya – Wildflower Diversity, Conservation & Tibetan Traditional Knowledge

The Hailey Public Library and the Wood River Chapter – Idaho Native Plant Society will co-host “Wanderlust: The Eastern Himalaya – Wildflower Diversity, Conservation & Tibetan Traditional Knowledge” with conservation ecologist Bob Moseley on Thursday, March 21 at 5:30 PM. Retired from a decades-long career with The Nature Conservancy, Moseley will share gorgeous images and discuss an area considered the most floristically diverse temperate ecosystem on earth. He’ll also examine cultural uses and traditions of ethnic groups of the region. Part of HPL’s Wanderlust series, the free talk will be held at Town Center West, 7 W Croy, and live streamed.

Classic Flicks continues with a 1940 film starring Henry Fonda and directed by John Ford on Thursday, March 14, at 6:00 PM. Widely considered to be one of the greatest films of all times, it is based on the 1939 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name by John Steinbeck. The gritty movie follows a poor Oklahoma family that loses their farm during the Great Depression and ends up in California in search of work. Classic Flicks are the 2nd Thursday of each month. Join us at Town Center West, 7 W Croy, for popcorn and a movie!

“Learn to Knit” a free, 4-part class taught by master knitter and Sun Valley Needle Arts owner Patricia Lirk is back! The series will focus on the basics and conclude with a personal project. Classes will be held at the Hailey Public Library located at 7 West Croy on Tuesdays from 5:30-7:00 PM, starting February 6. Participants provide their own yarn and needles.
