New York Philharmonic String Quartet

The New York Philharmonic String Quartet comprises four Principal musicians from the Orchestra: Concertmaster, Frank Huang; Principal Second Violin, Qianqian Li; Principal Viola, Cynthia Phelps; and Principal Cello, Carter Brey. All four members are multiple prize winners, have appeared as concerto soloists with the Philharmonic and orchestras around the world, and have appeared frequently in the Philharmonic’s chamber music series at David Geffen Hall and Merkin Concert Hall.

Wood River Orchestra Fall Concert

Come and join the Wood River Orchestra for an evening of music by 19th-century Austrian composer Franz Schubert. Works include his renowned Unfinished Symphony, Rosamund Overture, and a smaller scale string quintet. The concert will be held at the Wood River High School Performing Arts Theater, Community Campus in Hailey, beginning at 4pm. Admission is free, donations are always welcome!

An Evening of Chamber Music

On Monday October 30 join members the Wood River Orchestra and the Wood River Jewish Community at the WRJC’s Lewis Family Center in Elkhorn for an evening of chamber music. WRO musicians will perform two movements of an unfinished string trio by Alexander Borodin, followed by Felix Mendelssohn’s Octet for Strings. The venue is at 95 Badeyana Dr. in Elkhorn, and the concert begins at 7pm. Admission is free.

Evensong, Oct 15, 5:30 p.m., commemorating Hiram Hisanori Kano

In the first quarter of the 20th century, many immigrants from Japan moved to Nebraska to work on the railroad and to work in agriculture. Among them was Hiram Hisanori Kano. He was ordained an Episcopal priest in 1936, and was detained in the Nebraska internment camp during World War II. Our evensong service this month will honor Fr. Kano, and will feature a biography of Fr. Kano, music written by Nebraskans, and one hymn written by a young Japanese person. Don’t miss it! October 15, 5:30 p.m., at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Reception with wine and light hors d’oeuvres follows.
