Preservation Hall Jazz Band

The Argyros

Preservation Hall Jazz Band’s mission is to preserve the extraordinary music that evolved in New Orleans around the turn of the century and to bring that music to contemporary audiences. Individually, these musicians represent the industry’s elite, and collectively, they keep alive the traditions of this uniquely American sound. Known for their high energy, crowd-pleasing performances, Preservation Hall Jazz Band has been described by music critics as “the best jazz band in the land.” The Argyros is thrilled to partner with our friends from “Pres Hall” for a unique three night musical journey, the likes of which you’d be hard pressed to find in New Orleans, New York, or anywhere else. The band will play three entirely different shows, and each night the Tierney Theater will be transformed to match the feel of that show’s musical mood. Night one will be a traditional seated concert, featuring many of the beloved Big Easy jazz standards that have made Preservation Hall and the “N’awlins Sound” famous around the world. On night two, the Tierney Theater will be converted into a cabaret-style jazz nightclub, and the song selection will match that more intimate setting. Finally, night three will be a red-hot jazz dance ...

Uncharitable Film Screening & Panel Discussion

The Argyros

Inspired by Dan Pallotta, whose TED Talk on charity was voted the most persuasive TED talk of all time, Uncharitable is a feature-length documentary that challenges us to rethink traditional philanthropy. It offers a powerful call to end the bare-bones constraints on nonprofits and allow them the freedoms given to business so they can affect real and lasting change. The discussion panel after the film will include: Sally Gillespie, Spur Community Foundation; Jenny Emery Davidson, The Community Library; Melissa Mathews, The Argyros; Brooke Pace McKenna, The Hunger Coalition; and, Jennifer Wells Green, Sun Valley Museum of Art. The film and panel discussion are sure to stimulate conversation! This event is the first in the Giving Thought Learning Series that is part of the “it’s in our nature” campaign to promote the vital role generosity and nonprofits play in our community. The film is co-presented by Spur Community Foundation, SVMoA, and The Argyros, and co-hosted by 16 local nonprofit organizations. This event is free to attend, however, registration is required. The Flying Karamazov Brothers

The Argyros

Expect the unexpected with The Flying Karamazov Brothers, featuring the four self-proclaimed eccentric lunatics spicing things up with laugh-out-loud comedy, wild theatrics, arcane errata, and astonishing juggling feats. Formed at UC Santa Cruz in 1973, The Flying Karamazov Brothers have been seen around the world, on Broadway, on television, and on the big screen. They are not Russian, they are not brothers, and they don’t fly but they are “as close to a sure thing that can be found onstage, 100 minutes of cleverness and comedy that go by in a flash.” - The New York Times
