Ross Fork Fire Community Meeting

A community meeting will be held on Saturday, September 10th at 5 p.m. at Forest Service Park, Ketchum, Idaho. The park is located one block west of Main Street on the southern edge of downtown. The address is 131 Rivers Street East. The meeting will also be live streamed on the Sawtooth National Forest Facebook page if you prefer to watch it virtually from home. You do not have to have a Facebook account to watch the meeting online. The link to the Facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/sawtoothnationalforest Officials will provide information and updates regarding the Ross Fork Fire. If you have questions about the fire, you can ask them during the meeting in the Facebook chat or email them in advance to [email protected] We will answer as many questions as we can during the meeting.

Author David James Duncan: On Dams

David James Duncan is the author of the novels The River Why and The Brothers K, the story collection River Teeth, the nonfiction collections My Story as Told by Water and God Laughs & Plays, and two fast response activist books, Citizen’s Dissent (with Wendell Berry) and The Heart of the Monster (with Rick Bass). His work has won the Western States Book Award, three Pacific Northwest Bookseller’s Awards, the American Library Association’s 2004 Award for the Preservation of Intellectual Freedom (alongside Wendell), a National Book Award nomination, an honorary doctorate from the University of Portland, and has appeared in more than fifty anthologies including The Pushcart Prizes, Best American Sports Writing, Best American Essays (twice), and Best American Spiritual Writing (six times). David has spoken far and wide on imaginative and spiritual freedom, the charms of the lay contemplative life, the tragicomedy of the writing life, the crucifixion of the living earth, and the assassination of American democracy by the Supreme Court’s creation of a bogus “Corporate Person.”

The 2022 Community Speaker Series presented by the Sun Valley Writers’ Conference and The Community Library welcomes award-winning writer and playwright, Ayad Akhtar. Akhtar is the winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and an Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He is the author of “Homeland Elegies,” which The New York Times selected as a Top 10 Book of 2020. His plays have also been awarded the Kennedy Prize for American Drama and an Obie Award, as well as Tony and Olivier nominations.
