Brett Dennen is a nationally known, beloved singer-songwriter who has played at Austin City Limits, Newport Folk and Telluride Bluegrass Festivals and appeared on Jimmy Kimmel, David Letterman and Conan O’Brien. His songs are carefully crafted, beautiful and often exhibit a wry sense of humor. In addition to his skill as a musician, Brett is an active philanthropist, environmentalist and avid skier. His love of skiing led Dennen to create his “Lift Series” tour, of which this stop in Sun Valley is a part of his visits to his favorite ski resorts. This tour combines Dennen’s love of skiing with his deep concern over the environment and future of resort towns in the face of changing climate. In this hilarious sequel to Greater Tuna, it’s Christmas in the third-smallest town in Texas. Radio station OKKK news personalities Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie report on various Yuletide activities, including the hot competition in the annual Christmas lawn-display contest, won 14 times in a row by Vera Carp. A mysterious “Christmas Phantom”, known for vandalizing the yard displays, threatens to throw the contest into turmoil and has the contestants on edge. Among the subplots are Stanley Bumiller’s attempts to end his probation and leave Tuna, Bertha Bumiller’s struggle to hold her family together at Christmastime, and Joe Bob Lipsey’s fight to mount successfully his production of A Christmas Carol despite the town controller of the electric company threatening to turn the lights off. The movie is both an affectionate commentary and satire of small town, Southern life and attitudes. A Tuna Christmas is the second in a series of comedic movies set in the fictional town of Tuna, Texas. Children under 14 FREE

Sophisticated, bawdy, funny and insightful, A…My Name Will Always Be Alice is a delightful, award-winning musical revue. This lively entertainment enjoyed long runs Off Broadway in the 1980s, 1990s and again in the early 2000s. It is as relevant today as it was then, as it explores the experience of contemporary women of all ages through music and sketches. The musical styles range from rock to Broadway to country and even some gospel. The New York Times review said, in part: “Delightful! The music and lyrics are so sophisticated that they can carry the weight of one-act plays. A song called “Friends” recounts the entire history of a friendship that sustains two women from high school through marriage and old age; another, ”Honeypot,” in which a blues singer seeks help from a psychologist, is at once a parody of modern sexual therapy and a devilish explication of the disguised erotic content of old-time blues lyrics. A song titled “Trash” begins as a parody of pulp ”women’s fiction” and ends up dramatizing the disappointed life of an office receptionist who chases after the fantasies propagated by Judith Krantz.” The show was originally conceived by Joan Micklin Silver and Julianne Boyd.
