Learn how to identify redds with our River Program Director, Ryan Santo! Redds are the nests that trout create during spawning to store their eggs. The spawning season is critical to the survival of fish populations, and understanding how to identify redds, and how to avoid them is something everyone who loves this river should know. The day will start out at the Draper Preserve Pavilion at Lions Park with a brief presentation. The rest of the day will be spent walking in the river as a group, identifying and counting redds. Most of the scouting will take place in the river, so we ask that participants are comfortable walking in moving water on unstable rocky river bottom. This is a great opportunity to learn about the Big Wood River ecosystem, become a better steward of the river, and help us collect data about local rainbow trout populations.
