Robert K. Elder, author of “Hemingway in Comics” will discuss his book and its accompanying exhibit, on display in The Community Library’s Foyer this fall.

“Hemingway in Comics”—the book and the exhibit—is an exploration of what it means to be a pop culture icon, and how that image can change over time. Hemingway casts a long shadow in literature that also extends into comic books. Hemingway’s role in these comics ranges from the divine to the ridiculous, as his image is recorded, parodied, twisted, amplified and aggrandized. He is often portrayed as the hypermasculine legend: bearded, boozed up, and ready to throw a punch. But just as often, comic creators see past the bravado to the sensitive artist looking for validation.

Hemingway in Comics provides a unique lens for considering one of our most influential authors. Not only for the dedicated Hemingway fan, this event will appeal to all those with an appreciation for comics, pop culture, and the absurd.

This program will be held outdoors on the Library’s Donaldson Robb Family Lawn on 4th Street in Ketchum. Bring a low-back chair or blanket to join us.

Elder’s presentation will be followed by a book signing with Chapter One Bookstore.
