Footlight Dance Centre, under the Artistic Direction of Hilarie Neely, presents “CINDERELLA”, Friday, Saturday, April 29-30, 7:00 pm and Sunday, May 1, 2:00 pm, at the WRHS Performing Arts Theater at the Community Campus in Hailey. A classic fairy tale story by Charles Perrault that many young children dream about, Cinderella the ballet is the least seen of the classic tales. In 1870, the Bolshoi Theater requested Tchaikovsky write the music for the ballet, but it never came to be. Cinderella in 3 acts was first performed at the Maryinsky Theater, Russia in 1893 but it wasn’t until the music of Sergei Prokofiev was composed Nov. 15, 1945 that the ballet we see today gained recognition. Since 1945 when Prokofiev finished the score, there have been several choreographers staging Cinderella, most notably Fredrick Ashton of the Royal Ballet, London the first to stage the ballet in the West. Ben Stevenson’s production, 1970, for the Houston Ballet is the most popular in the United States. Our production premiered here in the valley in 2007 based on the Ashton version. “I am delighted to bring the staging back with our new cast of stars.”

Cinderella will be played by Lena Gardner, a senior at WRHS, the two stepsisters by Adri Meyer and Keyle Potts, Dakota Barth will play the Fairy Godmother, all are seniors, and other Company dancers, Hazel Ludwig, Ava Knowles, Bridgette Silva, Piper Kolb, Audrey Hernandez and Lilia Page, will dance principal roles of the fairies of Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Sparkle. The Dancing Master will be played by Malia Foley, senior at WRHS and Prince by Leo Star, sophomore.
Footlight in its 38th year, brings programs to children ages’ 4-high school throughout the year at their main studio located in the Community Campus, Hailey with satellite studios at Studio Move & the YMCA in Ketchum, and the Grange Hall, Hailey. All tickets are $ 10.00 and available in advance at the Community Campus or Iconoclast Books, Hailey. Pre sold tickets are encouraged. The performance will include dance genres of ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop and tap techniques that make for a lively show with choreography by instructors Gabi Bryant, Robyn Fox, Shellrae Garnes, Melodie Taylor-Mauldin, Bronwyn McGary, Hilarie Neely, Leah Taylor, Kassidy Thompson and Anne Winton.
