Ketchum’s Coffee Culture

Dubbed the “best city in America for coffee lovers,” Berkeley, California, boasts one café per 2,073 people. We hate to steal your thunder, Berkeley, but with roughly one coffee shop for every 580 people (calculated on a coffee-stained napkin, no less), we think we have you beat.

When you’re in Sun Valley, you’ll never have to worry about where your next dose of caffeine is coming from. Whether you’re on the hunt for that perfect latte to kickstart your morning or need a spot to hunker down and catch up on work emails, we invite you to explore Ketchum’s coffee culture.

Maude’s Coffee and Clothes

391 Walnut Avenue, Ketchum

For that “hang with the locals” vibe head to Maude’s Coffee and Clothes. Maude’s serves locally-roasted organic coffee and espresso drinks alongside tea, fresh-squeezed orange juice, and pastries. The atmosphere at Maude’s is lively, so grab a table and catch up with a friend. When you’re done with your drink, wander through Maude’s “closet,” a clothing retailer that offers vintage and contemporary pieces.

Java on Fourth

191 4th Street West, Ketchum

Java on Fourth might well be considered an institution in Ketchum’s coffee culture and is known for its rich, deeply flavorful drinks. The Bowl of Soul, Java’s specialty mocha, is a drink that every coffee-lover should try at least once. If you really need a jolt of caffeine to wake you up, ask for the Keith Richards: four shots of espresso topped with Java’s spicy Mexican hot chocolate. Java also serves smoothies and fresh-baked pastries.

Hailey Coffee Company

611 Sun Valley Road, Ketchum

Hailey Coffee Company is well known in the Wood River Valley for its fresh roasted beans (they roast 2 tons of beans per month!) and their down-to-earth coffee shop in Hailey, 11 miles south of Sun Valley. With the opening of their new location in Ketchum, Hailey Coffee Company joins the fray of Ketchum’s café scene. In addition to coffee and tea, the new location serves hot breakfast, lunch sandwiches, and pastries.

Starbucks

491 Sun Valley Road, Ketchum

Here in Sun Valley, we do things a little differently — even with our Starbucks. Voted one of the most “over the top” Starbucks in the world, it’s hard to miss the unique mountain town architecture of this popular coffee shop. The interior is spacious and bustling, and you’ll always find a handful of people working away on their laptops or reading the newspaper. Live music is common, as is a line out the door during busy seasons. Bonus: the Visit Sun Valley visitor center is inside, too!

Lizzy’s Fresh Coffee

491 10th Street, Ketchum

Coffee snobs (you know who you are) won’t want to miss a pour over at Lizzy’s Fresh Coffee. Lizzy’s is a custom coffee roaster that opens their small café for “drink-in” or take away from 8:00 am to 11:00 am Monday through Friday. While you’re there you can purchase a bag of freshly roasted beans and, if staff is available, get a tour of their roasting operations.

Konditorei

Sun Valley Village, Sun Valley

How often do you see Austrian fare paired with a café manned by skilled baristas? For a dose of the extraordinary, head to the Konditorei in Sun Valley Resort. The Konditorei serves hearty Austrian dishes, such as schnitzel and schnitzelwaffle, along with classic espresso drinks, coffee, and tea. Get sit-down table service in the main restaurant or snuggle into a leather chair by the fireplace to enjoy a perfectly brewed latte.

Hank & Sylvie’s

471 Leadville Ave N, Ketchum

Known for their gifts, baked goods and flowers, Hank & Sylvie’s should be overlooked for their coffee. This location is easy to miss if you’re not familiar with their tucked away spot under Gather Yoga in downtown Ketchum. It’s the perfect place to grab a cup while you browse for the perfect witty greeting card for just about any occasion.
