Since 1958, the City of Ketchum has celebrated its mining history with one of the largest non-motorized parades in the west. Come spend the weekend with the whole family and watch the Big Hitch Parade on Saturday at 1 p.m, featuring quality buggies, carriages, carts and stagecoaches, is one of the largest non-motorized parades in the Pacific Northwest. Come inside the museum to view historical items from Ketchum’s founding, mining history, and Wagon Days. Step outside for a tour of Ketchum’s oldest surviving building, the Bonning Cabin. The historical exhibit was developed in partnership with City of Ketchum, Blaine County Historical Museum, and The Community Library’s Regional History Department. The Ore Wagon Museum also sells reserved seating for the parade and Wagon Days souvenirs. This year’s Hispanic Heritage Month theme is Honoring Heritage and HPL wants to celebrate ALL the rich cultures represented in the Wood River Valley. Young and old are invited to submit a story, poem, copy of a photograph, drawing or whatever honoring your family’s heritage or heritages. Submissions are limited to one 8 1/2” X 11” paper and due on Wednesday, September 11, by 5:00 PM. They will be lightly curated and displayed to the whole community on the Library’s windows from September 15 to October 15.
The Hailey Public Library takes great pleasure in launching Hispanic Heritage Month with a Family Friendly Kickoff, 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday, September 13, at Town Center West, 7 W Croy. Father and son duo Quinta Generaćion return with lively songs and great music. Local Salvadorian restaurant Lago Azul will offer delicious food with the first 50 meals free. Kid’s activities are the heart and soul of the Kickoff. This year’s activities include face painting, tissue paper flowers, Jenga and piñatas. The evening concludes with rousing rounds of Lotería, a traditional Mexican game similar to bingo but played with pinto beans as markers on special cards.
