Since 1958, the City of Ketchum has celebrated its mining history with one of the largest non-motorized parades in the west. Come spend the weekend with the whole family and watch the Big Hitch Parade on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Big Hitch Parade, featuring quality buggies, carriages, carts and stagecoaches, is one of the largest non-motorized parades in the Pacific Northwest. The grand finale, as always, is the “Big Hitch,” the historic Lewis Ore Wagons pulled by a 20-mule jerkline. August 15 – September 4 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily – Wagon Days Headquarters, Ore Wagon Museum and Bonning Cabin Enter the Ore Wagon Museum to explore an historical collection from Ketchum’s mining era, the town’s founding and the historic Wagon Days Big Hitch Parade. Based on the Science Cafe model developed in Europe in the 1990s, ICL is pleased to present Science Pub as a fun way to bring educators, scientists, presenters, and the public together. Come on out, grab a beer, and hear about our wildlife program with Jeff Abrams, ICL’s new wildlife associate! Idahoans care deeply about the native creatures that call the Gem State home. Historically, conservation efforts have focused almost exclusively on game animals. In recent years, however, science has told us that the threats facing the overwhelming majority of Idaho’s wildlife must be addressed with a much broader conservation management perspective, emphasizing diversity and resiliency. Going forward, habitat concerns and climate change will increasingly be at the center of comprehensive efforts to ensure security for all Idaho’s critters – from woodpeckers and Big-Eared bats to fishers and wolverines. Please join ICL, as we host a conversation about our renewed emphasis on Idaho’s wildlife and emerging ideas about managing all species across the landscape to address the increasing challenges they face. Footlight Dance Company presents a free educational performance for the public on Wednesday, January 25, 2:45pm at the Community Campus Theater, Hailey. This performance will look at 5 of the more than 600 endangered animal species in the US that are either threatened or on the brink of extinction due to habitat loss, poaching, climate change and other factors that eliminate species living around us across the US. The 17 company dancers will use the genres of ballet, modern, jazz, tap and hip hop for our message of conservation and education.

ROWSEY Choreography by JULIA BRAY CABARET will turn up the heat this winter, as The Spot transforms into the Kit Kat Klub. In a Berlin nightclub, as the 1920’s draw to a close, a garish Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience and assures them they will forget all their troubles at the Cabaret. With the Emcee’s bawdy songs as wry commentary, Cabaret explores the dark, heady, and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich. Cliff, a young American writer newly arrived in Berlin, is immediately taken with English singer Sally Bowles. Meanwhile, Fräulein Schneider, proprietor of Cliff and Sally’s boarding house, tentatively begins a romance with Herr Schultz, a mild-mannered fruit seller who happens to be Jewish. They are recognized as pioneers in contemporary Taiko and have been instrumental to the growth of the art form, helping to nurture an ecosystem that now supports more than 500 groups spread throughout North America. San Jose Taiko teaches, performs, and expands the Taiko art form.

The Argyros welcomes back Barcelona Flamenco Ballet (BFB) and their production of New Time/Flamenco Reborn. In an all new show, BFB fuses three dance styles with which we are all familiar – jazz, contemporary, and, of course, flamenco – creating a tension so electric, the metallic tapping sounds of the dancers footwork endure in one’s ears, leaving us questioning: What does it mean to be ‘reborn’? One interpretation of ‘reborn’ is that of reconstruction. The dancers constantly reconstruct the ambiances they produce onstage, building up a rhythm with repetitive motions – and then break it, instantly stopping, rupturing the established order, then beginning again. In this way, the rhythm itself is ‘reborn’ – constantly renewing the dynamics of the performance, keeping it fresh and alive. Witness the drama of BFB, from the exuberant outpourings of passion to quiet moments of intimacy in this constantly changing display of reinvention.
