Returning for its 12th year, SVFF kicks off another five days of Films, Coffee Talks, Parties and more. SVFF supports independent film and the magic of storytelling. It’s mission to celebrate and award filmmakers who are established and emerging has earned the Festival accolades by the film industry, film festival goers, film lovers, and filmmakers. The year-round Sun Valley Film Initiative develops professionals and illuminates the process of filmmaking, propelling emerging voices with grants and education. Since 2012 the Sun Valley Film Festival has invited fans and filmmakers to America’s first ski resort to celebrate the magic of storytelling. In the past, Festival guests include Hollywood legends such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Clint Eastwood, Jodie Foster, Geena Davis, and Oliver Stone as well as avant-garde writers and filmmakers like Stephen Gaghan and Mark and Jay Duplass. With over 4,000 yearly attendees, SVFF has become known as the Festival for Filmmakers. The Sun Valley Film Festival is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. U.S Alpine Championships

Sun Valley Resort is excited to host the Toyota U.S. Alpine Championships presented by Stifel kicking off April 2 and welcoming elite and next-generation ski racers vying for spots on the Stifel U.S. Alpine Ski Team. The racing event, which runs April 2-5, is the final competition on the hotly contended US national ski racing circuit and is the culmination of a season-long showcase of the best of the best in US ski racing athleticism. Saturday starts the week of events with training opportunities for racers and a sponsor village and live apres music in Warm Springs Plaza. Sunday, April 2, the racing kicks off with men’s and women’s super-G followed by Clicquot in the Snow Party at Warm Springs and the Opening Ceremony at Town Square in Ketchum featuring a Parade of Athletes and a free concert by Lowdown Brass Band. The 6th Annual Sun Valley Tour de Force on July 20-22, 2023 is a weekend of epic proportions for car lovers of all ages. Eight events take place over the course of three days. The signature event of the weekend is the ‘NO SPEED LIMIT’ high speed runs at Phantom Hill. Located in the heart of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, 3.2 miles of state highway becomes a no-speed limit zone. For one day only, drivers are allowed to put their machines to the ultimate test. In 2019, all previously recorded speed records were broken when a Bugatti Chiron hit 253.01mph. This is truly an experience of a lifetime. Additional weekend events include scenic drives, SVTdF Car Show at Festival Meadows, hosted sponsor events and our fundraiser; Cars & Comedy. With five Pulitzer Prize winners, two National Book Award finalists, six “New York Times” bestsellers, and a former U.S. Poet Laureate, the 2023 Sun Valley Writers’ Conference (SVWC) will feature “the strongest literary list we’ve ever had,” according to SVWC Literary Director John Burnham Schwartz. Now celebrating its 29th year, SVWC 2023 will be held Saturday, July 22 through Monday, July 24 at the stunning Sun Valley Resort and Pavilion. For three days, some of the country’s—and the world’s—best writers and thinkers, including fiction and nonfiction writers, journalists, policymakers, and poets will descend upon the small town of Sun Valley, Idaho. Save the dates for summer 2023: July 30 – August 24. The Sun Valley Music Festival’s 39th Summer Season presents a star-studded lineup of guest artists for over three weeks of free concerts in the beautiful, natural surroundings of Sun Valley, Idaho. Pianists Yefim Bronfman and Orli Shaham, mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke, and violinist Augustin Hadelich will headline concerts featuring works by Schumann, Ravel, Mahler, and Tchaikovsky. Other programs include works by contemporary American composers including Mason Bates, Michael Abels, and Michael Tilson Thomas. For a very special Pops Night, Stéphane Denève, Music Director of the St. Louis Symphony, will lead the Festival Orchestra in an evening of the music of John Williams. Major orchestral repertoire will include Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 (the season finale) and Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring. The annual fundraising Gala Concert will take place on August 8 (details will be released in mid-February). “I like to think of the winter season as a time for the land itself to rest. Zero human activity, the silence of falling snow in one of the most remote places on earth is enchanting and reflective.” -Tuck Fauntleroy Fauntleroy’s focus for his Burn series are wildfire affected regions in Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park. They represent a mixed perspective with some images shot aerially and others shot from the ground. Like much if his other work, the aerial images were captured flying over the territory via small single engine airplanes from an open window for an unobstructed lens. Burn is timely and relevant in the current environment of climate change and the proliferation of recent fires across the western US and globally. The massive 1988 Yellowstone fires were a wake-up-call and significant warning of destruction and foreshadowing of the cost of climate events. Warming, drought, and the resulting fires have never been more dangerous. The photographs are careful compositions of positive and negative space while capturing the elegant lines and shapes created by a natural landscape scared by flame. I rely on colors to set the atmosphere and play off of each other like our emotions do inside of us.” -Thai Mainhard Brazilian born painter Thai Mainhard’s practice harnesses her own raw and immediate need to create. Each abstract painting combines expressive mark making with dense blocks of color exploring the opposing forces that make up our lives. Mainhard encounters human nature, exploring happiness, frustration, surprise, connection, spirituality, and overall thinking processing. Each of her works is emotional; it is a lush expression of her inner jungle. Going through a deep internal process, the artist creates artwork that represents human nature’s fragility and opposes it to the robustness of emotions and feelings.

With the Emcee’s bawdy songs as wry commentary, Cabaret explores the dark, heady, and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich. Cliff, a young American writer newly arrived in Berlin, is immediately taken with English singer Sally Bowles. Meanwhile, Fräulein Schneider, proprietor of Cliff and Sally’s boarding house, tentatively begins a romance with Herr Schultz, a mild-mannered fruit seller who happens to be Jewish. The Philip Glass Ensemble will perform Philip Glass’s “Music in Eight Parts” from 1970, thought to be lost, for one of the first times in 50 years, along with selections from Glass’s major works “Koyaanisqatsi,” “Glassworks,” “The Photographer,” and “Einstein on the Beach.” The Philip Glass Ensemble (PGE) comprises the principal performers of the music of Philip Glass. In 1968, Glass founded the PGE in New York City as a laboratory for his music. Its purpose was to develop a performance practice to meet the unprecedented technical and artistic demands of his compositions. In pioneering this approach, the PGE became a creative wellspring for Glass, and its members remain inimitable interpreters of his work.

The painting is inspired by Ruby Bridges, the first African American to attend a white school in the New Orlean school district. She had to be escorted in and out of school by police officers for her safety. Although Bridges is not the exact girl in this painting, she served as Esther’s inspiration for this work of art. Acrylic on canvas: 60 x 48 x 2.5 inches.
