The sun has been quite active recently, making this an especially good time for kids (and adults) to observe and learn about it. The Hailey Public Library will host a special observing session with Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve’s inaugural Astronomer in Residence Catherine Slaughter on Saturday, July 9 from 11 AM-1 PM. A special solar telescope will be set up outside the library.

The Sawtooth Forum and Lecture Series: an 8-week series expanding our understanding and appreciation of the Sawtooth country. This is the 15th year of hosting the summer speaker series, and we have a great lineup this year as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area and the 50th anniversary of the Association! Join us at 6pm every Friday, July 8 – August 26 at the Stanley Museum Lawn, right off Highway 75 between Stanley and Lower Stanley. The Hailey Public Library will host the second in a series of free, off-site, family-friendly night sky viewing opportunities with well-known local astronomer Tim Frazier from 9:30-11:30 PM on Friday, August 12 (back up is August 13th). The event features elite racers from the field, adaptive skiers, as well as top juniors from the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation. Cash prizes to the top teams. Come join the fun as a participant or spectator. Day of race signup only. Hot drinks and cookies will be provided by Sun Valley Community School.
