JANUARY 26–FEBRUARY 5 THE SPOT PRESENTS 12 TIME TONY-AWARD WINNING MUSICAL: CABARET Book by Joe Masteroff Music by John Kander Lyrics by Fred Ebb Based on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood “OUTSIDE IT IS WINTER. BUT IN HERE IT IS SO HOT!” Directed by BRETT MOELLENBERG Music Directed by R.L. ROWSEY Choreography by JULIA BRAY CABARET will turn up the heat this winter, as The Spot transforms into the Kit Kat Klub. In a Berlin nightclub, as the 1920’s draw to a close, a garish Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience and assures them they will forget all their troubles at the Cabaret. With the Emcee’s bawdy songs as wry commentary, Cabaret explores the dark, heady, and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich. Cliff, a young American writer newly arrived in Berlin, is immediately taken with English singer Sally Bowles. Meanwhile, Fräulein Schneider, proprietor of Cliff and Sally’s boarding house, tentatively begins a romance with Herr Schultz, a mild-mannered fruit seller who happens to be Jewish. SUITABILITY: Recommended for audiences 14+ due to mature themes. RUN TIME: approx. 2.5 hours with intermission PERFORMANCES: Thursday ...

Philip Glass Ensemble @ The Argyros | Ketchum | Idaho | United States
7:30 pm
The Philip Glass Ensemble will perform Philip Glass’s “Music in Eight Parts” from 1970, thought to be lost, for one of the first times in 50 years, along with selections from Glass’s major works “Koyaanisqatsi,” “Glassworks,” “The Photographer,” and “Einstein on the Beach.” The Philip Glass Ensemble (PGE) comprises the principal performers of the music of Philip Glass. In 1968, Glass founded the PGE in New York City as a laboratory for his music. Its purpose was to develop a performance practice to meet the unprecedented technical and artistic demands of his compositions. In pioneering this approach, the PGE became a creative wellspring for Glass, and its members remain inimitable interpreters of his work.

12:00 am
Sun Valley Jazz and Music Festival Five days. Forty Bands. One Million Smiles Attendees from all fifty states, every Canadian province, and several foreign countries gather each October to celebrate live performances of America’s music. The Sun Valley Jazz & Music Festival was birthed out of a love and appreciation for jazz music by Tom & Barbara Hazzard and is held mid-October each year in Sun Valley, ID. Become One of the Thousands of Jazz Fans Who Have Been Delighted Since 1990! This experience of telling the story of “American” music is our passion. Amazing isn’t it? We all get to be part of this history while it’s still in the making. The names that ring through eternity—Armstrong, Ellington, Fitzgerald, Beiderbecke, Goodman, Holliday, Basie, Shaw, Miller, and so many more—have created a legacy of delight that lives on through those of us who participate in this jazz festival. The history of this music echoes the history of twentieth century America. This jazz event is held this year because of your continued support and encouragement. You tell people how much fun it is and that they need to come to Sun Valley. It continues because people have a heart to support the event and ...
