Winter Wonderland Festival Kick Off @ Sun Valley Resort

Join us on Saturday, December 10th for the Winter Wonderland Kick Off! Festivities include: Santa Shop & Stroll and Cookie Decorating – 12pm to 4pm Visit Santa for photos in the Boiler Room, as well as fun and festive cookie decorating! Individual cookies can be purchased for $12.50/each and children will be given a space in the Boiler Room to decorate. Carolers will be strolling, singing and bringing the holiday cheer!  Shop for a Cause at all Sun Valley Village Retail – All Day Shoppers at select stores in the Village including the Brass Ranch, Pete Lane’s, Signatures, and the Lodge Gift Shop can take care of everything on their holiday list while supporting local nonprofits in the community with the “Shop for a Cause” event. A percentage of all purchases will support the Environmental Resource Center, 43 North, and Girls on the Run in the Wood River Valley. Holiday Movie at the Opera House – Doors open at 4pm, Movie at 4:30pm Tickets can be purchased at the Opera House day of for $5, or in advance at the Rec Office.

An audience participation ‘unboxing’ of the new holiday Randimal collection. An interactive Create Your Own Randimal contest. A staged reading of the Randimals Children’s book and a preview of the second book. An audience sing along of the Randimals song. Randimal giveaways! Randimals book signing and gifts. And, if we are lucky, a visit from Santa! We hope to see you there. The Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place in the Village in front of the duck pond Saturday, December 17th with music beginning at 5:30 p.m. Activities include an appearance by Santa, live holiday music by Faculty Lounge, ice carvings, complimentary hot chocolate and cookies, and a cash bar. Festivities begin at 5:30pm with the tree lighting at 6 p.m. sharp!

A more recent addition to the Papoose Club community events, the Nordic Cup has been held in the Wood River Valley since 2006. Depending on snow conditions the event is held either in Quigley Canyon in Hailey or Sun Valley Nordic center. The cross-country event is open to youth aged 3-13 who may race in skate or classic disciplines. This free community event put on by Papoose Club volunteers in partnership with the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation’s Nordic ski program and the Blaine County Recreation District.

Started by the original founders back in 1957, this fun ski and snow board event is for non-sanctioned racers ages 3 to 12. It is held at Sun Valley’s Dollar Mountain in the spring, usually in March. The event attracts up to 250 skiers who all earn commemorative pins. The Olympic gold medal winner Picabo Street was a Kindercup champion! Returning for its 12th year, SVFF kicks off another five days of Films, Coffee Talks, Parties and more. SVFF supports independent film and the magic of storytelling. It’s mission to celebrate and award filmmakers who are established and emerging has earned the Festival accolades by the film industry, film festival goers, film lovers, and filmmakers. The year-round Sun Valley Film Initiative develops professionals and illuminates the process of filmmaking, propelling emerging voices with grants and education. Since 2012 the Sun Valley Film Festival has invited fans and filmmakers to America’s first ski resort to celebrate the magic of storytelling. In the past, Festival guests include Hollywood legends such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Clint Eastwood, Jodie Foster, Geena Davis, and Oliver Stone as well as avant-garde writers and filmmakers like Stephen Gaghan and Mark and Jay Duplass. With over 4,000 yearly attendees, SVFF has become known as the Festival for Filmmakers. The Sun Valley Film Festival is a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
