In the past, Festival guests include Hollywood legends such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Clint Eastwood, Jodie Foster, Geena Davis, and Oliver Stone as well as avant-garde writers and filmmakers like Stephen Gaghan and Mark and Jay Duplass. Sun Valley Resort is excited to host the Toyota U.S. Alpine Championships presented by Stifel kicking off April 2 and welcoming elite and next-generation ski racers vying for spots on the Stifel U.S. Alpine Ski Team. The racing event, which runs April 2-5, is the final competition on the hotly contended US national ski racing circuit and is the culmination of a season-long showcase of the best of the best in US ski racing athleticism. Saturday starts the week of events with training opportunities for racers and a sponsor village and live apres music in Warm Springs Plaza. Sunday, April 2, the racing kicks off with men’s and women’s super-G followed by Clicquot in the Snow Party at Warm Springs and the Opening Ceremony at Town Square in Ketchum featuring a Parade of Athletes and a free concert by Lowdown Brass Band. Men’s and women’s slalom will run on Monday, April 3, women’s giant slalom on Tuesday, April 4, and men’s giant slalom on Wednesday, April 5; each day’s races will be followed by awards and live music in the Warm Springs Plaza. The 6th Annual Sun Valley Tour de Force on July 20-22, 2023 is a weekend of epic proportions for car lovers of all ages. Eight events take place over the course of three days. The signature event of the weekend is the ‘NO SPEED LIMIT’ high speed runs at Phantom Hill. Located in the heart of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, 3.2 miles of state highway becomes a no-speed limit zone. For one day only, drivers are allowed to put their machines to the ultimate test. In 2019, all previously recorded speed records were broken when a Bugatti Chiron hit 253.01mph. The Sun Valley Music Festival’s 39th Summer Season presents a star-studded lineup of guest artists for over three weeks of free concerts in the beautiful, natural surroundings of Sun Valley, Idaho. Pianists Yefim Bronfman and Orli Shaham, mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke, and violinist Augustin Hadelich will headline concerts featuring works by Schumann, Ravel, Mahler, and Tchaikovsky. Other programs include works by contemporary American composers including Mason Bates, Michael Abels, and Michael Tilson Thomas. For a very special Pops Night, Stéphane Denève, Music Director of the St. Louis Symphony, will lead the Festival Orchestra in an evening of the music of John Williams. The painting is inspired by Ruby Bridges, the first African American to attend a white school in the New Orlean school district. She had to be escorted in and out of school by police officers for her safety. Although Bridges is not the exact girl in this painting, she served as Esther’s inspiration for this work of art. The National Library of Israel has the honor of holding the third largest collection in the world of Franz Kafka’s original manuscripts, letters, and drawings; it represents a significant perspective of Kafka’s legacy. While Kafka did not foresee the sacred value of his work, his friend Max Brod, who was part of Kafka’s literary circle, did and he preserved Kafka’s material even when instructed not to do so. Dr. Stefan Litt, Humanities Curator of the National Library of Israel, will not only share highlights of the Kafka archives, but will tell the story behind the Kafka collection and how it ultimately came to the National Library of Israel. Stefan Litt received his PhD in Pre-Modern History from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He has researched and taught at the universities of Erfurt, Duesseldorf, Graz and Bar-Ilan in Israel, and has published on the history of early modern European Jewry and on Jewish archives and book culture. He was awarded the Rosl and Paul Arnsberg Prize for his research. Since 2010, he has worked as an archivist at the National Library of Israel, responsible for the foreign language holdings. Then he simply disappeared, for the next forty-four years, until an amateur DNA sleuth opened her laptop. Returning for its 12th year, SVFF kicks off another five days of Films, Coffee Talks, Parties and more. 2023 Films 2023 Honorees 2023 Schedule BUY PASSES SVFF supports independent film and the magic of storytelling. It’s mission to celebrate and award filmmakers who are established and emerging has earned the Festival accolades by the film industry, film festival goers, film lovers, and filmmakers. The year-round Sun Valley Film Initiative develops professionals and illuminates the process of filmmaking, propelling emerging voices with grants and education. Since 2012 the Sun Valley Film Festival has invited fans and filmmakers to America’s first ski resort to celebrate the magic of storytelling. In the past, Festival guests include Hollywood legends such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Clint Eastwood, Jodie Foster, Geena Davis, and Oliver Stone as well as avant-garde writers and filmmakers like Stephen Gaghan and Mark and Jay Duplass. With over 4,000 yearly attendees, SVFF has become known as the Festival for Filmmakers. The Sun Valley Film Festival is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Yesterday and Today: The Interactive Beatles Experience is the nation’s most innovative and unique show utilizing the works of the Beatles. The band, anchored by brothers Billy, Matthew, and Ryan McGuigan perform as themselves and leave the song choices completely in the hands of the audience. Just prior to the show, audience members fill out a card with their name, their favorite Beatles song, and the reason why they chose that song. Two minutes before the show begins, a set list is created based upon the songs chosen by the audience. As an added treat, the reasons that the audience members chose those songs make up the narrative of the evening. Every show is different, every show is interactive, and every show proves that The Beatles music truly is the soundtrack to our lives.
