Join us for a presentation based on the Know Before You Go platform, introducing basic concepts about snow, avalanches, and traveling safely in and near avalanche terrain. Learn from the Friends of Sawtooth Avalanche Center instructor team of snow experts, mountain guides, and experienced avalanche educators. We invite everyone to join if you’re learning about avalanches for the first time or are a seasoned backcountry user ready for a yearly refresher. No registration is needed to attend in person. The SAC will also be hosting field days the following weekend.

Complimentary Bald Mountain Tours are offered every Monday, Wednesday & Friday throughout the Winter Season. Tours meet at 9:30am in the Mountain View Room at River Run Lodge and are guided by one of the friendly members of our guest services team (yellow coats). They will guide you around Bald Mountain’s vast terrain and wow you with some amazing historical facts about Sun Valley. Tours are open for all ski levels.

Join the Friends of the Sawtooth Avalanche Center instructors for a field day covering avalanche rescue basics, snowpack layering, avalanche terrain identification, and basic backcountry travel. Please note-you need to have attended a Friends’ Introduction to Avalanches lecture prior to participating in the field day. See www.sawtoothavalanche.com for lecture dates or email [email protected] to get a virtual copy of the lecture. We have moved to a pre-registration system for courses due to high demand! Please sign up for a field day using this Field Day Sign Up Form: https://forms.gle/GNvKfCmMrCeB2Qp97 We will send out more information about the course in the week leading up to it. We will meet at the SNRA. You will need a way to travel over snow (snowshoes, touring skis, splitboard…) There is a $40 suggested donation to the Friends of the SAC to cover instructor costs. BCRD Ski Free Day! @ BCRD Nordic and Snowshoe Trails
For four days this season, BCRD welcomes the community to enjoy free Nordic skiing and snowshoeing on all BCRD winter trails. The 32-kilometer multi-use Wood River Trail, which runs from Ketchum to Bellevue, is always free. The Wood River Trail is groomed every other day and is open to skiers, walkers, dogs, and fat-bikes. The Ski Free Days for the 2022/23 season are: Saturday, December 10 Sunday, January 8 Saturday, February 25 Wednesday, March 22 For Ski Free Day on Saturday December 10th at Galena: – Free rentals at Galena (no reservations) – Free 30 minute skate or classic group lessons at 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, and 1:00 (no reservations – just walk into the shop)

Enjoy the Sawtooth Botanical Garden in winter on the darkest nights of the year! Dark Sky Dinner events feature a “farm to greenhouse” catered meal with wine for 40 people in our heated greenhouse, a “snow bar” and warming fire pits outside the greenhouse, and night sky viewing telescopes outside on the darker, north side of the Visitor Center.  Prepare to bundle up! BCRD Wood River Trail Challenge @ Wood River Trail
Blaine County Recreation District invites the community to join in the free 2023 Wood River Trail Challenge, which runs from January 27 through February 28 To complete the challenge, participants must ski, walk, snowshoe, or snowbike the entire 32 kilometers of the Wood River Trail, from Hulen Meadows in Ketchum to Gannett Road in Bellevue. Participants may tackle the challenge all at once or break the trail up into sections and complete them between January 27 – February 28. Finishers will need to complete and mail a form to receive a prize from the BCRD. The Wood River Trail is a 32-kilometer multi-use, year-round path that provides a non-motorized connection between the Wood River Valley communities of Bellevue, Hailey, Ketchum, and Sun Valley. BCRD grooms the Wood River Trail in the winter and provides this resource free for all users. MAP HERE
