Sun Valley Music Festival Winter Season

When: March 15, 2023 – March 17, 2023 all-day

Where: Argyros Performing Arts Center, 120 Main St S, Ketchum, ID 83340, USA

The Sun Valley Music Festival presents its fifth Winter Season at the Argyros Performing Arts Center from March 15-17, 2023. The program will feature Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, one of the most popular works in all classical music, in an arrangement for 21 brass and percussion musicians that captures the power and emotion of the original. Music Director Alasdair Neale will conduct the performances, which will also feature a series of short works showcasing the beauty and range of various instruments in the brass and percussion sections. Admission is free, and the atmosphere at the Argyros will be intimate, offering the perfect setting for audience members to experience this beautiful music up close and personal. This year’s program will feature two acts with an intermission, and the same program will be performed each evening. Tickets Admission is free, but space is limited, and reservations are required. Reservations for the public begin on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 9 a.m. (Mountain Time). Seating is limited to two seats per household for one performance. Returning for its 12th year, SVFF kicks off another five days of Films, Coffee Talks, Parties and more. SVFF supports independent film and the magic of storytelling. It’s mission to celebrate and award filmmakers who are established and emerging has earned the Festival accolades by the film industry, film festival goers, film lovers, and filmmakers. The year-round Sun Valley Film Initiative develops professionals and illuminates the process of filmmaking, propelling emerging voices with grants and education. Since 2012 the Sun Valley Film Festival has invited fans and filmmakers to America’s first ski resort to celebrate the magic of storytelling. In the past, Festival guests include Hollywood legends such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Clint Eastwood, Jodie Foster, Geena Davis, and Oliver Stone as well as avant-garde writers and filmmakers like Stephen Gaghan and Mark and Jay Duplass. With over 4,000 yearly attendees, SVFF has become known as the Festival for Filmmakers. The Sun Valley Film Festival is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. U.S Alpine Championships

From April 2-5, Sun Valley Resort will host the 2023 U.S. Alpine Championships with both men and women competing in slalom, giant slalom and super-G events. The course in Sun Valley has a storied history of alpine racing, along with technical and challenging terrain, and will feature local U.S. Alpine Ski Team athletes such as Ryder Sarchett, Jack Smith and Dasha Romanov. Ballet Sun Valley presents the debut of world-renowned Dutch National Ballet (DNB) led by Artistic Director Ted Brandsen, July 1st and 2nd at 7 pm in the Sun Valley Pavilion. This is Dutch National Ballet’s first tour to the United States in 40 years and Sun Valley is the first stop! The tour continues with performances on the East Coast and at The Music Center at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles. Ketchum Arts Festival is an annual celebration of Idaho art in the shadow of Sun Valley’s Baldy Mountain. Sun Valley Tour de Force

The 6th Annual Sun Valley Tour de Force on July 20-22, 2023 is a weekend of epic proportions for car lovers of all ages. Eight events take place over the course of three days. The signature event of the weekend is the ‘NO SPEED LIMIT’ high speed runs at Phantom Hill. Located in the heart of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, 3.2 miles of state highway becomes a no-speed limit zone. For one day only, drivers are allowed to put their machines to the ultimate test. In 2019, all previously recorded speed records were broken when a Bugatti Chiron hit 253.01mph. This is truly an experience of a lifetime. Additional weekend events include scenic drives, SVTdF Car Show at Festival Meadows, hosted sponsor events and our fundraiser; Cars & Comedy. With five Pulitzer Prize winners, two National Book Award finalists, six “New York Times” bestsellers, and a former U.S. Poet Laureate, the 2023 Sun Valley Writers’ Conference (SVWC) will feature “the strongest literary list we’ve ever had,” according to SVWC Literary Director John Burnham Schwartz. Now celebrating its 29th year, SVWC 2023 will be held Saturday, July 22 through Monday, July 24 at the stunning Sun Valley Resort and Pavilion. For three days, some of the country’s—and the world’s—best writers and thinkers, including fiction and nonfiction writers, journalists, policymakers, and poets will descend upon the small town of Sun Valley, Idaho. This year, the all-star line-up will include Abraham Verghese, Tracy K. Smith, Ezra Klein, Anne Applebaum, Dave Barry, Ed Yong, Javier Zamora, Jennifer Homans, Curtis Sittenfeld, and many more! Save the dates for summer 2023: July 30 – August 24. The Sun Valley Music Festival’s 39th Summer Season presents a star-studded lineup of guest artists for over three weeks of free concerts in the beautiful, natural surroundings of Sun Valley, Idaho. Pianists Yefim Bronfman and Orli Shaham, mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke, and violinist Augustin Hadelich will headline concerts featuring works by Schumann, Ravel, Mahler, and Tchaikovsky. Other programs include works by contemporary American composers including Mason Bates, Michael Abels, and Michael Tilson Thomas. For a very special Pops Night, Stéphane Denève, Music Director of the St. Louis Symphony, will lead the Festival Orchestra in an evening of the music of John Williams. Major orchestral repertoire will include Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 (the season finale) and Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring. The annual fundraising Gala Concert will take place on August 8 (details will be released in mid-February). 27th Annual Trailing of the Sheep Festival

Sheep have been trailing through the Wood River Valley of Idaho for well over a century and are an integral part of Idaho’s heritage. The iconic Trailing of the Sheep Festival celebrates the sheep, herders, history, and food, of this unique cultural tradition, with the event recognized as one of the “Top Ten Fall Festivals in the World” by msn.com. Each fall, the Trailing of the Sheep Festival honors the 150+ year annual tradition of moving sheep (‘trailing’) from high mountain summer pastures down through the Valley to traditional winter grazing and lambing areas in the south. Enjoy the Sawtooth Botanical Garden in winter on the darkest nights of the year! Dark Sky Dinner events feature a “farm to greenhouse” catered meal with wine for 40 people in our heated greenhouse, a “snow bar” and warming fire pits outside the greenhouse, and night sky viewing telescopes outside on the darker, north side of the Visitor Center.
