SUMMARY:MUSEUM PASSPORT: Marcel Duchamp with Courtney Gilbert
DESCRIPTION:Join SVMoA for an in-person conversation with our own Dr. Court
ney Gilbert as she explores the landmark exhibition Marcel Duchamp\, on vie
w at the Museum of Modern Art through August 23 before traveling to the Phi
ladelphia Museum of Art\, where it opens October 10. The first major U.S. r
etrospective devoted to Marcel Duchamp in more than 50 years\, the exhibiti
on traces the full arc of one of the most influential artists of the twenti
eth century. Featuring more than 300 works—including paintings\, sculptur
 es\, films\, photographs\, printed materials\, exhibition designs\, and Duc
hamp's groundbreaking readymades—it offers an unparalleled look at the ar
tist's radical reimagining of art.\\n\\nGilbert will discuss Duchamp's endu
ring legacy through iconic works such as Nude Descending a Staircase (No. 2
) (1912)\, The Bride Stripped Bare by Her Bachelors\, Even (1915–23)\, Fo
untain (1917)\, Box in a Valise (1935–41)\, and Étant donnés (1946–66
)\, examining how Duchamp forever changed the way we think about art\, auth
orship\, and creativity.\\n\\nCourtney Gilbert is the Assistant Director &
Curator at Sun Valley Museum of Art. Prior to joining SVMoA as Curator in 2
006\, she worked at the Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas at
Austin\, and taught Art History at Columbia College Chicago and Texas Stat
e University. Courtney holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in art history from the Unive
