  Insurance Rate Map along the Big Wood River\, and neighboring streams and 
 how this may directly affect residents and the processes in which to appeal
 . The 90-day appeal period for Public Comment is May 27 to August 25\, 2026

  property risks.\\n\\n 	Why are the flood maps changing? Flood risk changes
  over time\, and the mapping technology has been improved. FEMA is working 
 with the state\, the county\, and local communities to use newer data and t
 echnology to update the flood maps. New maps provide communities with an op
 portunity to learn about flood risks\, leading to more informed decisions a
 bout damage and loss prevention.\\n 	What does this mean for me? The new fl
 ood map\, known as a Flood Insurance Rate Map\, shows areas of high\, moder
 ate\, and low flood risk. It will help guide financial\, planning\, investm
 ent\, and development decisions.\\n\\nPeople who own structures in high-ris
 k areas will need to have flood insurance if they have a loan from a federa
