SUMMARY:“Trailblazers” Film Screening and Panel
DESCRIPTION:In 1982\, in a rebellion against convenience\, brothers Troy an
d Powell “Gil” Gillenwater walked across Arizona. They weren’t chasin
g fame or following a mapped route – because there wasn’t one. What beg
an as a homegrown adventure evolved into a journey that reflected the rugge
d beauty of the Southwest. Accompanied by two mules\, a stray dog\, and a h
andful of topo maps\, they faced snowstorms\, irate ranchers\, mule mishaps
\, a closed passage through the Grand Canyon\, and the constant challenge o
f finding water. Their grit is a testament to the vanished frontier.\\n\\nT
oday the Arizona Trail\, a National Scenic Trail\, offers that same spirit
of discovery\, but its roots trace back to Native Peoples\, prospectors\, o
utlaws\, and two brothers who believed that if no path existed\, they would
forge one. Part road movie\, part time machine\, "Trailblazers" is about h
ow one audacious idea can spark a lasting legacy for generations to follow.
\\n\\nThis documentary film runs 40 minutes. A panel discussion with co-dir
ector and producer Kristin Atwell\, and brothers Troy and Gil Gillenwater w
 ill follow.
