 ople are behind – or rather\, above it all. Because\, while down on the s
 tage these finely-crafted marionettes perform plays\, fairy-tales\, musical
 s and operas\, it's the skilled puppeteers two metres above them who guide 
 all their movements with a special technique\, each on 12 strings. The pupp
 eteers\, who have mastered this unique method\, bring the marionettes to mi
 raculous life.\\n\\nThis special performance technique has been declared a 
 cultural asset worthy of preservation\, as the "most highly developed form 
 of puppet and figure theatre"\, earning the Salzburg Marionette Theatre a p
 lace in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.\\n\\nPerformance �
 ��\\n\\nMaria\, a postulant at Nunberg Abbey is too free-spirited to accept
  discipline of the order. Easily and frequently escapes to the mountains. S
 o\, the Mother Abbess arranged for Maria to work as a governess for the wea
 lthy aristocratic navy captain Geroge Von Trapp\, a widower with seven chil
 dren. The captain runs the household as strictly as he does the ships he sa
 ils on. Within kindness and understanding\, and by adding music to their no
 rmally rigorous schedule Maria wins the children ́s hearts. The Capitan\, 
 increasingly captivated by Maria\, falls in love with her\; he returns his 
 affection. Although Captain Von Trapp is engaged to the elegant socialite E
 lsa Schraeder\, he eventually marries Maria.\\n\\nThe Trapps’ married lif
 e is quickly disrupted by Nazi Germany’s annexation of Austria. They retu
 rn from their honeymoon to find a telegram summoning the Capitan to serve i
 n the navy of the Third Reich. But the Capitan is a patriot passionate abou
 t fulfilling life that Austria has always offered its citizens.\\n\\nThe fa
 mily has become well known as an amateur singing group\, and at the instiga
 tion of a family friend\, Max Detweiler\, the Trapps make a final appearanc
 e at the Salzburg Festival. At the end of the performance\, they manage to 
 escape to Nonnberg Abbey and from there they cross the mountains on foot to
  Switzerland.
