Kneadery and The Pioneer Saloon
The Kneadery and the The Pioneer Saloon, both owned by the Witmer family are Ketchum institutions and are loved by locals and tourists alike. It wouldn’t be unusual for someone to have breakfast or lunch at The Kneadery and then head to the The Pioneer for dinner.
For many, The Pioneer Saloon is the first restaurant to head to for dinner when coming into town and the last place to go before leaving. Part bar, part museum, all Rocky Mountain classic. Antique bullet boards compete for space on the walls with mounted game, period firearms, and display boxes containing memorabilia from Ernest Hemingway’s time in Sun Valley. On any given night, you can find a cross-section of Sun Valley sitting in the Pioneer’s lively bar, with local carpenters and teachers rubbing elbows with visiting movie stars and business people. Renowned for perfectly aged, tender and flavorful beef, “The Pio” is typical of an earlier Idaho where ore wagons rattled down Main Street and business was done with a handshake and a drink. As the saying goes, “If you haven’t been to The Pioneer Saloon, you haven’t been to Ketchum.”
