Government & Taxes
Sun Valley, Ketchum, Hailey, Bellevue, and Carey are the 5 incorporated cities in Blaine County. All are governed by an elected mayor and a city council. In addition, the unincorporated county is governed by a three-member Board of Commissioners.
Both Ketchum and Sun Valley are authorized by the state to levy a local option tax. In Ketchum, the tax rate is 3% on lodging and liquor by the glass, and 2% on other retail sales. In Sun Valley, the tax rate on lodging and retail sales is 4%. Various exemptions apply to these taxes (e.g., groceries & medical in both jurisdictions, in Sun Valley building materials and lift tickets were exempted in January 1999).

Recycling and Waste Removal
Blaine County recycles mixed paper, plastics 1-5, and aluminum/tin curbside. We have several drop off locations for glass and cardboard, and our main Recycle Center accepts items such as batteries, household hazerdous waste, and electronics. We also participate in Hilex Poly's plastic bag recycle program. They accept items such as plastic grocery bags, produce/newspaper bags, dry cleaner bags, cereal box liners, and plastic wrapping. Drop off locations for these items can be found at all Atkinsons Markets, the ERC, The Community School, LL Greens, Kings, and the Blaine County Annex building.
Click here for a complete list of drop off locations and acceptable items.
